Wedding cuts

Alyssa, on August 31, 2020 at 10:23 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 17
Hey everyone!
I’m curious to hear about what parts of the wedding you are choosing to skip (decorations, a part of the meal, etc..) and what was the reason?
Thank you!Alyssa

We are cutting out the father-daughter dance , I’m not close to him so I didn’t see the point of doing it.

We cut out the dj and dance, not doing tosses, no decorations, no favours or dessert table, cut most of the guest list and are just having 45-50 people for ceremony and then a restaurant dinner. Way more simple now and less stressing I have found.

I decided to cut out florist, transportation and decorator due to unneeded expenses and extra vendors to pay.

We haven't settled on a timeline yet as we're still four months out (seven if we're going to our backup date) but it's likely going to be before dinner. The cake needs to go back into the kitchen for the venue staff to cut, plate, and serve to each guest at their table. We're just doing a symbolic single slice cut for photos sake.

We are cutting out dessert with the venue and just doing our cake. Instead of favours we are doing a sweet and salty bar (partially because we have kids lol), simple one paper invitations, cut costs on florals by buying used bouquets and adding in some of my own greenery which was half the price of new artificial flowers, we are doing a burger and poutine bar for our reception dinner rather then meat and potato meal. Was about $15 or more less per plate and more our style.

We are cutting the dessert option as well and going for the cake. Do you plan to do cake cutting immediately following dinner. Or first dance and then cake?

We arent having a cake or any sort of “dessert table”. We would rather spend that money elsewhere in the budget. We also cut out greenery on the tables and are going for a more affordable option of cheese cloth runners. We also are reusing our ceremony decor for our head table decor. We also decided against wedding favours. We are also only doing print invitations with no added “extras” like rsvp cards, directions, ect. All of that extra info will be found on our wedding website which is free.

After getting the quote from our florist we decided to cut the real greenery we wanted for the centrepieces. Instead I'm planning on doing a diy I saw on tiktok (I'm really aging myself here aren't I?) to the vases that we got second hand.

We're also skipping a caterer and having friends that went to culinary school prepare our dinner.

Paper invite - I hate getting clutters of paper so I don't want to send one to others. Plus it's an unnecessary cost, since we're directing everyone to a website anyway.

Dessert course from the venue's catering - serving wedding cake instead and using the money meant for the dessert towards another appetizer

If covid persists and we can't have a dance party, we'll be cutting the DJ.

Chair covers, elaborate centre pieces, dress (you litterally only wear it for the day and then never again), guest's favours (making a donation to charity and a small sweet treat), simple invitation (you could go really elaborate on family's if it means that much, I'm sure most friends prefer an e-invite. Am I the only one who ends up taking a picture of the invitation because I will lose it or forget detail?

We aren't starting until after 730, in hopes that people will have dinner before. We were planning on passed apps: stuffed mushrooms, meatballs, caprese skewers, a smoked salmon cucumber bite, and I think there was a spring roll type thing. I'll admit I haven't looked at the menu options since our plans changed for the year!
There will also be a blurb on our invites that says something like "join us for drinks, dancing, and desert" or "light refreshments".

    Hi Amelia,
I love the idea of skipping the wedding meal. I've worked in catering all through college and I hate seeing how much food guests waste. Question is, what and how much food are you doing in place of the meal?

We cut quite a bit: videography, dancing, photo booths, tosses, speeches, and were not doing a traditional cake for everyone. We wanted to save some money in some areas and time in others.

We've cut the traditional meal and are instead having appetizers at an evening reception. Food wasn't high on our priority list, and we've been to weddings without before.
We aren't doing an open bar, there's no way we could afford to buy all that booze for our friends who are bigger drinkers than we are.

I decided to skip the garter toss, but we're keeping the bouquet toss. I cannot stand the idea of having a piece of lingerie flung into a crowd, I get the historical reference but no thanks!

We cut out videography. Splurged more on a whole day photography package with two photographers.

My fiance and I are cutting out wedding favors just because most of the time people forget to take them home at the end of the night, and that's just a waste of money in our eyes.
