Wedding Cake or not?

So I just found out our venue has a cake handling fee of a $1.50/ person if we serve it right after the meal and $2.50/ person if we serve it later. Why is it seem that all venues just want to make so much money off of couples. I mean we are already paying 17% gratuity fee. Hearing this makes me not...

Hearing this makes me not want to serve cake at our wedding or to package it and send a piece home with everyone. Just drives me crazy that these costs aren’t mentioned how much in the contract, only says that there will be a handing fee.

It’s actually very normal to charge a fee. The venue is paying staff to cut and plate the cake. It does take some time to cut and plate sometimes a hundred or two pieces of cake.

Go with what fits your budget. That fee seems so ridiculous. As someone mentioned maybe a friend or relative can help out.

I know it seems unfair. But remember they aren’t making any money off the cake (the place you got it is). And they are paying staff to cut and plate it. If you serve cake later in the evening that is extra staff they need to keep on later.

You can always do something like cupcakes with a small cake the you guys cut for pictures but it not served. We are doing a cookie/candy table instead of a cake.

I think what they're doing is both unfair and ridiculous. Maybe ask someone from your wedding party or family to help out?

And this is why I decided not to go with a venue that has wedding packages Smiley tongue Sorry to hear that you're running into all of these hidden costs Smiley sad I would recommend serving cake yourself - heck if I was in your shoes I would make it a serve yourself station so that guests can not only decide if they want cake but how much of it! That or if you haven't made any deals on cake perhaps use cupcakes instead?

It’s so silly how they pick apart every little thing to charge people on. We were doing to do a dessert table, so people can just go help themselves.
