Wedding Cake: Necessary or Not?

Lynnie, on December 17, 2018 at 09:05 Posted in Wedding reception 0 27

Is it a wedding without a wedding cake? The cake cutting and cake face smash are classic wedding traditions, but many couples have been switching it up recently with different delicious desserts! What do you think? Is wedding cake necessary or not?

Not necessary since I honestly can't remember ever eating wedding cake at a wedding. We might have one if it fits within our budget tho.

For me it was.... but it's not gonna make or break your wedding to do something different. A dessert is definitely necessary though!

We're having a Sundae Bar, and mini cupcakes, but I have 2 tiers of cake, one for saving, and one for doing the cake cutting ceremony. None for the guests... LOL. But the mini cupcakes are the same baker/flavours as the cake.

Not. I can’t eat it and most weddings I’ve been to people don’t.

Necessary for the top tier if keeping for the 1st year anniversary. Options always available to other desserts over tiers.

In my opinion, it is a nice tradition, but I have an objection that why we would have to follow all of these traditions? We are a new generation, and we should give the world our own traditions. Isn't a better idea to help any needy one instead of a cake-cutting ceremony? Even can pay school fees of a needy boy or girl that we want to spend on cake cutting.

We will be keeping this tradition, but it will be a smaller wedding cake and will just be for us, or bridal party to enjoy

I didnt want one, but hubby loves cake, so we are getting one. He doesn't often voice opinions when it comes to planning, so I try to go with whatever he does have opinions on 😊

Not necessary, there are so many other fun dessert ideas especially if you do not like cake.

We’re having a brunch reception and ceremony.

We’ll skip the traditional cake and pickup a crepe cake or 2 on our way into the ceremony!

Not necessary but I’ll definitely be doing one because I’ve always loved the idea of doing the cake cutting and I love cake so!

Not necessary. Wedding cakes are sooooo expensive. I'd much rather have regular dessert

Cake is not necessary but some sort of dessert is. I want to do a cutting ceremony though.

Well be doing a small cut cake and then cake pops for our guests - i think big wedding cakes are wasteful and unnecessary, but we definitely wanted a small one to cut together

Not really I don't think. We are having one because a family member is going to do it for free for us and she does absolutely amazing cakes!

Not necessary, but definitely have desserts of some kind!! We're doing a cake/cupcake hybrid so guests can help themselves to that.

I dont think its super necessary! We are having a small cake that my mom is making and then we will be having a large desert buffet! so there will be lots of options, not just cake! plus we don't want to cut the cake and serve it around to everyone, we will just enjoy it the next day most likely with our immediate family.

I agree that some sort of dessert is necessary, though if a dessert is included with a three-course meal then I could understand why a couple may opt out. (We are having both).

Some sort of dessert is necessary, whether is cupcakes, or a cake or a dessert table! Plus I love the photo op cutting the cake creates!

Not necessary - Though I love a good piece of cake, the ceremonial act of cutting the cake isn't something we'll be doing.

Not necessary! I don’t even eat cake at weddings. We are doing a ceremonial top tier to cut and have photos and then tiers of cupcakes.

Not necessary, unless you really want a cake cutting then you need something to cut

Not necessary in general but somewhat necessary if you want to do the traditional cake cutting (you could also use a pie or something though).
