Wedding Cake

Stephanie, on March 16, 2022 at 11:27 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7
Hello everyone,

I have a dilemma on my hands. I found a cake baker that does beautiful decorating of custom cakes and gave me a very reasonable quote for my two-tier wedding cake. I ordered a half a dozen cupcakes from the baker to try three different fillings with a vanilla cake base. The fillings were great, just the cake itself was dry.
Should I give feedback delicately to the baker about the cake itself being a little dry? Or do not say anything at all and book them? I do not really want to loose this baker as their decorating skills are gorgeous and their price cannot be beat.
To give context, my wedding is this August and the wedding cake is not high on my priority list. Other places I received quotes from are asking 3x or 4x the price. What should I do?
Thanks in advance!

Your baker is the choice you want to stick with as the final decision. Do say something to them so that you don't feel your guests are eating dry cake and leaving it for that reason. Even take a piece to let them try and see how they can improve on it. You do want to pay for what you're serving and cutting on your day.

    Hello everyone,
Thanks for your kind words, I thought a conversation with the baker could be an option. I just don’t want to be rude. Some tact is needed.

My cupcakes I got when getting my wedding sampler was a bit dry too. I would talk to the baker as the cakes from my bakery are not normally dry like the cupcakes were that I got in my sampler!Smiley smile

I would defiantly talk to the baker. Sometimes just having a chat with them to see if they may be a solution to your issue and could even ease your mind if you like them a lot

Cupcakes will pretty much always be dryer than a cake. If it was absolutely terrible I may be concerned, but if it really wasn't too bad I personally wouldn't worry about it.

I agree with Malyssa- have that conversation there could have been many factors that led to the dryness.

    HI Stephanie,

I think you could voice your concerns with the baker, especially if you really like them in general. Its very possible the cupcakes came out a bit more dry, as it is a smaller batch and can be easy to dry out. Im sure they will be able to set your mind at ease a bit if you have a chat with them.
