Wedding Cake

Mélissa, on October 7, 2019 at 12:05 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6
My FH and I have decided to just serve our wedding cake for dessert after supper instead of having a dessert and then cut the cake in the evening. We will be Approximately 100 ppl . I was told by person who owns the venue we are having it at to make sure that I have enough cake as the slices have to be a good size since it is all we are serving as sweets throughout the evening so my question is does that mean I need to tell the person making the cake a bigger amount of ppl attending ? Do they go by portions or number of tiers on the cake ?? So confusing

This is something I did research based on the fact that not everyone does eat cake and had alternative dessert to serve with our served dessert. The pastries were a second option to give out as cake was for the main family only.

This guide will help you as it did for me in the sense of knowing how many guests usually serve and if you wish to go for less serving to avoid wastage. Also consider cutting the portion by 1 x 1 inch or 2 x 1 inches. Tiers are best since you know it will cost the same as a slab per portion to pay.

We had 72 guests attended and ordered a 3 tier cake (10", 8", & 6") and 36 assorted pastries leaving nothing for the night after serving. A picture of what we had.

Oups, sorry, I hit send before editing and completing my message.
I suggest that you check out Wilton's web site to see how much people the tiers in your cake are serving. Like I started to say, the servings for wedding cakes are very small compared to birthday cake servings. I would either add a tier or choose bigger cake pan sizes to get at least 15% more cake.

Hi Kelsie, Each cake pan shape has their own pre determined number of servings. It all depends on the shape you want for your wedding cake but note that the sliced for wedd are much smaller than you would sesuggest you go

Hey Melissa! Congrats on your engagement and welcome to WeddingWire!

My experience was similar to Casey in that I told my vendor how many people we were expecting to serve (we're serving cupcakes) and she let me know how many I would actually need. We have a cake as well that we are going to cut and keep to ourselves - that one is only 2 tiers.

It works similar for the cake though, I'm looking for a Bridal Shower cake right now to serve our guests and the vendors are letting me know how many tiers I need based on how many people will be there.

When I started looking for cake vendors, I started with the amount of people it would be serving, as that was how they determined price as well. Your cake vendor will be able to tell you how big of a cake you will need to make sure each person has a decent enough piece.

If you want a certain amount of tiers, let your cake vendor know and they can send you suggestions.

So our cake we wanted to serve about 25 people (Just the bridal party, parents, and nieces and nephews) and we did a double barrel cake. So there were 2 tiers, and both were 4 layers of cake, it was PLENTY of cake for everyone, and we cut small pieces because of the amount of tiers
