Weather worries... :(

Joey, on September 14, 2017 at 08:05 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10

Hey there, all!

Have you been checking the weather obsessively to get the forecast for your wedding day? Does it look like rain? Or snow? While many people will tell you that it is good luck to have rain on your wedding day, it is still something that many of us hope to avoid! What is your bad weather contingency plan?

I was checking the weather a lot the week before. At first it was calling for 70% chance of rain, so we got a tent figured out. The next day the forecast changed to sunny and that's how it stayed! Sunny all day and we were so thankful as our wedding was in a barn and it would have been so muddy and miserable in the rain! We had a horrible summer here in Ontario with tons of rain so we feel lucky to have had a good day! However, one thing we did not plan was the heat. We chose mid September because we wanted to avoid extreme heat, but we it was over 30 C with the humidex. But we had some breeze and lots of shade so it didn't hamper our fun one bit. I'll take the heat over rain for sure!!!

We aren't getting married for 8 and a half months yet so no need to check the weather network yet, but I'm sure I will be obsessive about it the closer we get to the day. If it does rain, we have a back up plan! Our ceremony is supposed to be outdoors in the courtyard at the hotel and if the rain decides to make an appearance that day we will be using a room right off of the courtyard for our ceremony. It's not the nicest but it will do.

Yes! I have been obsessively checking the weather, looking at past years, crossing fingers and praying! Tomorrow is THE day...forecast is +20 & sun....I will STILL be checking it, right up until tomorrow when it's time to leave for our outdoor ceremony/photo venue!

I just checked the forecast today (only can see for the next 14 days, my wedding is in 15 days) but these next two weeks are looking nice and sunny, not too hot, which is what we want. Fingers crossed however we are able to have the ceremony inside in case of inclement weather, but our venue has reassured us that they wait until the last possible moment to make the call to move indoors, and they watch the radar to see if we can have a quick chunk of time outside for the ceremony, so I feel good, no matter what happens.

I keep checking the monthly forecast. Who's idea was it to have an outdoor wedding on September 30 in Manitoba?! The ceremony is planned to be outdoors, the reception will be under a big tent. We have a rain plan (everything under the tent) and a cold plan (indoors) so it's not the end of the world. I'm really hoping that it will be 20C and sunny!

With only 9 days to go, I've been looking at the 10 day weather forecast. Looks like it will be nice and 22 degrees Celsius (around 72 degrees Fahrenheit for our American friends). Our ceremony is outdoors so it's important to me. If it rains, the plan is to move it to the covered patio which is located off of our reception room.

We've started checking now that we're just over a week out...so far it looks good! But our ceremony and cocktail hour are on a tented patio, so even if its raining, our guests will be covered. If its really bad, we can move indoors to the reception hall.

I had checked the weather all the back to the year 2000, just to see what it was like weather wise on August 12th. There was only 1 or 2 days in those years where it had rained on that day, so I was feeling pretty confident. Days leading up to my wedding day, there was a 60% or higher chance of rain and I was getting nervous. I ended up having a back up plan for photos, which was my reception hall because it was indoors and the park we were using was outdoors. We also had 10-20 umbrellas just in case we went to the park and it started raining. It ended up being a hot sunny day, and it rained during my ceremony which took place inside anyways. So I got my "good luck" on my wedding day, but it stopped just as we left to go take pictures at the park! I was very happy about this.

I'm really hoping it doesn't rain as we picked our venue specifically for the outdoor location. If need be it will take place inside the house where the reception is. It's nice enough but outdoors is best!

I haven't looked at the weather since I don't want another thing to worry about right now but our contingency plan is to have everything happen in the barn where our reception is to take place.
