Virtual Wedding

Karley, on May 9, 2020 at 12:58 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7

Is anyone else considering a virtual wedding? My optimism that our big early September wedding can be pulled off due to COVID-19 dwindles each day, and I'm hoping to go partially virtual.

Should restrictions allow, I'm currently considering having the bridal party and immediate family (about 15-20 people max) attend the ceremony in-person, with everyone else (80+) attending virtually. However, I'm not sure what to do about the reception. I would like to have those in attendance stay for a casual yet fun reception, but don't want those attending virtually to feel left out. Would it make sense to continue to stream for the first dance, speeches, etc?

Also, I'm torn on whether or not it would be best to have a big reception with everyone physically attending in a year.

Is anyone else thinking about going virtual?

I totally share the concern about wanting it to feel like a real wedding. It's hard to know what to do. All the best Smiley smile

It's such a hard decision to make. Our date is August 14th (our 14th anniversary) and we are leaning to an elopement type ceremony and stream it with intimate reception at home and then maybe have large party on 1st anniversary. Bottom line the date was for us not everyone else....just be nice to have everyone celebrate. One of our other concerns is with social distancing how many will want to come and have it still feel like a real wedding (if that makes sense). I dont want to have a mask on during my vows Smiley sad

    Be well and good luck!

I have thought about the virtual route, but my family doesn't seem to be so on baord with it, but I do love the idea. I have heard of people also getting married at drive in theaters where the bride and groom will be streamed live on the screens, and all guests can drive in to watch. I thought that was an AMAZING idea, that way you can have most of your guest attend.

I've had this idea myself. We're still waiting to see what Doug Ford says about summer gatherings. Hopefully after Victoria Day he'll have some more answers. But regardless, we're doing a small ceremony with at least 5 people in attendance. I'm a little nervous about live streaming but we'll at least film it and share with everyone who could not be there. After the ceremony I want to have cake and some finger foods/tea sandwiches maybe and do pictures. I think at this point we will have to plan a reception (maybe 1 year anniversary?) party once everything is cleared up. Also, will probably have a virtual bridal shower in the coming months!

Virtual is a great idea to follow through for family and guests to see the ceremony and celebrate the important parts of the reception with you both. Keeping the numbers low seems fine since you can have the buffet fitting your budget.

We are doing this. Or at least very similar. Getting married July 18, with our max of 15 people. Getting married in my MILs backyard. We will live stream the wedding so those who can't be there can still be with us. I do plan on having food & music for those of us there, not sure if I will continue the live stream after the ceremony, maybe stop the live stream & set up some family video chats. We are having the reception with vow renewal in 2 yrs for everyone else
Do what you feel comfortable with.
