Videographer..yay or nay?

Amy F, on January 22, 2017 at 09:36 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 20
Hi there,
My fiancée and I are looking for some advice regarding videographers. I would like to have one but my fiancée thinks it will be a waste of money/too expensive. Is it worth it? I was thinking of having a same day edit but apparently those are more costly than having a videographer capture the whole wedding? Please help! Thanks Smiley smile

We were also not initially interested in getting a videographer but now that I'm getting closer to the date and considering how cool it would be to get drone footage (similar to Valerie, my venue is a vineyard / castle!)... and SO much easier to get a finished product rather than getting friends to shoot footage and trying to figure out how to edit them into a video. I'm starting to look into prices now too.

A creative idea I saw at another wedding - a bunch of people brought GoPros and the groom had a software at home to put together the video (they are STILL editing) so it's not easy, but it's cheaper and interesting points of view!

I definitely see the value of having a video to look back to, I just don't want the 5-minute video to be super cheesy Smiley winking So needs to be a good match with your personal style. Good luck!

I've read on a few articles that the number one thing brides regretted not doing was getting a videographer. FH and I decided we REALLY wanted to make it work and find a videographer that takes drone footage, as we are getting married at a beautiful vineyard and really wanted some aerial footage. But the going rate absolutely was not in our budget, so we booked a videographer for just 3 hours, he'll take some getting ready footage (he says this is better for the story telling) and then film the ceremony (for $540). It is the perfect compromise for us!

I would say yes, personally for many of the reasons already listed! We probably won't have it though, David isn't really into the idea and we don't have room in the budget for it Smiley winking maybe we will find someone (student, friend) who could film for cheap or as a favour! Best of luck with your decision!! Smiley smile

I found my videographer for $1800- that includes 2 people and 3 cameras for different angles. I actually found them through wedding wire and my friends booked them also. Just make sure you ask a lot of questions, get reviews and make sure you look at their previous work and figure out if you like their style of work.
    Due diligence is key!!

We paid our photographer $2700 but she's amazing! So I went over budget for her and she came recommended to me from someone in the film industry. I know she'll be awesome! And all the vendors I met with around the $1500 mark I really didn't like their work as much! You should check out her pics www.focca.ca. I love the sexy ones! Lol

I hope so too! I'm always worried that the photo video service is a get what you pay for kind of thing! On the flipside a friend of mine paid quite a bit for hers and hated all her photos!!!! So we just never know!!! Smiley smile

He gave us a discount because our wedding is smaller actually and he will be bringing less crew - hoping it works out!

I found a Toronto based photographer/videographer team to do our entire wedding day photo and video for $1700! It's way more than I wanted to spend but I knew I'd regret not having it. I always loved watching family wedding videos as a kid.

I vote yes for a videographer. Photography was our priority but we still wanted to have our day captured on video as well. Wedding videos have changed a lot and the style is much more watchable these days. We're getting a short highlights video (like 5 min) that will be great for sharing on FB and showing friends and family that couldn't attend. Then we're getting a longer video that has the whole ceremony and the speeches and then bits and pieces of the rest of the day.

We don't really have many videos of us so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity. I totally agree with Louise that it will capture your day in motion and how it looked and sounded. I'm loking forward to seeing the parts I missed! Can't wait for our videos to be ready!

Hey there! We were really fortunate that a coworker of mine, her daughter is a film student and agreed to shoot our wedding for a great price. I think it's worth it. With technology today I think you will watch your video more so than look at your pictures. Another co-worker of mine was telling me how her kids love watching it today. It gets alot of use with the kids Smiley smile Something you may want to have down the road! You can look to local colleges and universities to see if they have any students that would be interested in shooting it!

My thoughts used to be a definite no but my mind changed. I went back and forth on my decision for months. I watched my friends wedding videos and fell in love with how great they were. Videographers capture a different feel of your day, they can capture stuff that the photographer might miss.
Also it is a chance for you to remember your family and friends and how they felt that day. My friend also told me that your wedding day passes so fast that the video will give you memories that you otherwise might not have had.
I had a budget of under $2000 for this, I searched around for months and my fiancé was not into the idea until he changed his mind by watching other peoples videos.
I had an advantage that we don't have to pay for our photographer so that money went towards the video.
Each to their own but I think it is worth it if you can find a good deal.

So, I say nay because I feel almost no one watches their wedding videos anymore. It's costly and if you have pictures that should be good enough to look back on! Also, I have a family member who absolutely hated what her videographer turned over. She paid a lot of.money for something she hated that will never see the light of day again. He missed key things, set it to terrible music (she said please dont) and was shaky and terrible.
Howver, another friend of mine regretted not having a videographer because there were things she didn't get to see as the bride. She didn't get to see her bridal party walk down the aisle. She also wants to re watch some of the speeches her family did.
