Videographer, did you regret not hiring one?

I would def hire one. the day goes by so fast and there are many things youll miss or your attention is elsewhere and youll want to rewatch your day for sure

We had taken videographer out of our budget, even though I knew I would want one. And just the other day my future MIL said that is something she would like to gift us with! So we actually just had a video chat with ours tonight and it was so great. I 100% know for sure I would've regretted not having one so glad it worked out how it did. Our was really willing to work with the budget given and customize so that was great, sometimes you just have to ask!

I am the same as you and that's why we decided to invest in a videographer. There will be too many cute moments and moments that I will want captured and not by a camera but actually "being in the moment" - I hope to one day also replay it for my kids so they can see Mommy & Daddy getting married and not just flip through a coffee book.

That being said they are also VERY expensive, but if you can find a package deal with photography and videography, some aren't as bad.

View quoted message Don't get me wrong, there are definitely people who want that professional music video/documentary look, which is why all wedding videos feel so cookie cutter nowadays. But in my experience, whenever people have regrets about not having video, it's less because they want to have a professional film to look at but more because something touching or hilarious happened top the couple and they wish they could've seen it for themselves.


If you don't need that pretty professional film look, what you can potentially do to save money is get a videographer but omit editing services. A lot of people are fine with rewatching raw footage. Or just have them be there for a portion of the day instead of the full day, like the ceremony.
Another thing about videography at weddings is guest behavior. Everyone at weddings nowadays are always busting out their phones to take pictures or video during important moments. If you think it's annoying for professional photographers to get clean shots, it's even worse for those shooting video as guests tend to not care about blocking their view.

I think If it's in the budget go for it. My fiance was not as keen to get one because for the cost it doesnt seem worth it to only watch once or twice. We have a friend doing it for us and the plan is to watch it and then I think put it in our wedding box and watch again when we open the box in ten years.

Here's my personal take on wedding videos because I've made a few myself for friends of friends. Most couples don't need that super polished wedding video vibe. They want the funny moments, the randomness and all of that can be done via home video style, which anyone can do.

Think about it, how much of wedding videos nowadays that you see on YouTube and Vimeo are actual genuine moments as opposed to being completely scripted. Every wedding I've attended where there's a professional videographer capturing the moments, they are directing the couple - do this pose, walk towards me like this, make a face like that, pretend to look at each other, etc - and it just ends up looking like a glorified music video. If I want a polished beautiful image, I have the photos for that.

I’m going against the grain here in this post by saying that we didn’t have a videographer and we don’t regret it. Part of the reason why is because I am very critical of myself and wouldn’t be inclined to want to watch myself on video. Another reason we didn’t opt for video is that when watching a wedding video you’re taking the perspective that a guest at the wedding would have and we wanted our memories to be as we saw them and experiences them through our own eyes. The cost was also a big influence.

We are actually very fortunate that our photog/videographers are friends of ours - so they are giving us a deal. It's the only way we'd be able to afford both.

My sister just used a amateur videographer so that it didn't cost an arm and a leg. They got the footage she cared about so it worked out in the end. Might be worth looking into college students with good portfolios.

Honestly it was a must for me personally... I’m the same- I love reminiscing lol. Photos are great but they don’t capture the vibe/ what was said:.: videos do and you’ll have it forever to remember
