Very Small Ceremony Space - What to do?

Stephanie, on March 11, 2019 at 17:57 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 14

Hello ladies,

As I'm planning my wedding, I realized that the amount of people invited to the wedding is probably more than I can fit in the small public park next to the water.

The location is very precious to Eric and I, and I wanted to know what others have done when they had only a small space and 50 guests. I'm looking into renting chairs, but have no idea how to place them as there are some picnic tables or small trees around the park.

Thanks for your help!

What about setting down pillows and some blankets for people to sit on? I went to a backyard wedding where we sat on hay bails covered with blankets and it was stunning..

Our ceremony is also at a park, and they only allow 10 chairs on the grass. We will be placing chairs (patio furniture from my parents' place!) in a semi circle. As we only want immediate family for the ceremony, and our parents have said that it's a park and anyone can come and watch, those guests will likely be standing (short ceremony though).

Isnt it just relaxing there ? I grew up in st Genevieve and then later in my 20's moved along pierrefonds blvd and was able to walk there easily with my dog! Such great memories. I honesty cant wait to set it up. My reception is at La maison verte up the road. So convenient! Arch chair placement is a great idea!

Oh! I grew up in that park! Such a beautiful location. Ive seen many people put their chairs in an arch around the trees to allow all their guests to see.

I'm in a similar situation. I was planning on placing chairs in an arc or something to make them fit and so that everyone can see.

I would make use of the picnic tables there as well as having chairs.

I feel like you'll have to be more creative with your setup than just the aisle with chairs on either side - Place chairs where you can. You can also get creative with groups of chairs vs rows.

I asked Eric to do this and he wants chairs for everyone. Stubborn guy! I think my ceremony is like 15min. Smiley tongue in and out! Simple, no paper work and personal.

Yeah this place isnt a wedding attraction. A small park next to a church and across from an old age home. I asked Eric to move in with me here AND he proposed to me the following year here. Smiley heart

I guess I'm just going to have to have to a few days before my wedding and visualize. I moved last year to another province so I cant visit easily.

Just make people stand! I went to a wedding once where they had it on a beach and not enough seating. I didn’t even care that I was stuck standing in the sand in heels for 30 minutes. Your guests will survive lol.

I’ve been to a few weddings where they only set up about 20 chairs for those that cannot stand for extended periods, and everyone else just stands. I didn’t mind standing one bit, as the ceremonies were about 30 minutes each.

    Photos please.
At first thought I wonder if you could make it a bit boho and lay blankets and rugs and pillows on the ground to invite some guests to sit. You could of course also have chairs if the space allows.

Are the picnic tables movable? If not, they could be used as seats. Do you have pictures of the space? It’s hard to visualize without knowing where the trees are in relation to where you will be standing. Does the city (or whoever owns the park) have pictures from how previous people laid it out?
