Venue postponement fees during Covid

Hi everyone,

I am wondering what your experience is with your venue if you’re postponing your wedding due to covid.

My venue is asking for a 5% per person increase if scheduled after March 31, 2021 on a Saturday, as well as I would lose my deposit (it is non-refundable and not transferable to the new date). If I postpone to a Friday or Sunday next year the price will remain the same and my deposit will be transferred.

Are others venues also charging more or honouring your price in the contract?

That's gauging unless stated in your contract they can't do that...im going through something similar with my photographer

Ouch, 5% seems steep. At least it's a small silver lining if you pick a Friday or a Sunday. We're having a Friday wedding and it made it easier to get vendors and venues because most people want Saturdays.

We were very lucky that there were no price increases with our venue. We added on to our photography coverage (for this year's ceremony and the reception next year) so that increased the cost, but by choice.

We would only lose our deposit if we cancelled altogether right now before they even know if they can host it or not.

We can transfer our date free of charge but they have no dates available (Saturday’s) next year at all - so we are screwed regardless and are just waiting it out.
Does your contract say anything about increasing fees? That seems ridiculous to me - it’s not your fault COVID came along.
