Venue one hour away.

Stephanie, on April 28, 2020 at 11:39 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10
Hello!
My venue is one hour away from the my house where I initially wanted to get ready. Is that too far of a drive? I don’t want my dress to get wrinkly or be sweating in the limo. I also don’t want to stress about traffic but getting ready at home feels more comfortable.
Should I get a hotel close to the venue or is the hour drive okay???Thank you!

That shouldn't be a problem, just make sure your Limo has AC lol. I know its something you would expect but I have heard horror stories!

I think it will be fine. you and your girls will be in the limo getting hyped up playing music and having champagne. 1 hour will go by fast!! v

I don’t think it’s an issue. The last 2 weddings I attended it was a 2+ hour drive and we stayed overnight.

Definitely get a hotel or airbnb for the home feel! You don't want to be stressed out the day of because you are running late in traffic.

I would definitely look at getting a hotel or perhaps a nice B&B that you could get ready in - there are so many variables that could come up and that's just one less item that you wouldn't want to worry about on the day of your wedding. I guess it depends on your plan for makeup/hair and photos but if it works, you would just be able to wakeup and know you are good to go!

Our wedding is in Ancaster which is about 45 minutes from where we live and we have booked a hotel mainly for peace of mind as we are a winter wedding and just because i'd rather be in the spot I have to be and not feel rushed.

If your ceremony is in the morning, you and your bridal party would be waking up really early to get ready in order to account for the extra hour of travel time. Vendors like makeup and hair tend to have surcharges for super early start times like pre-7am.

Another factor to consider is you'll be taking up an hour of your photographer's time. That's an hour taken away from your main festivities or you have to pay for that extra hour where they will be contributing nothing towards your services since they're travelling. That extra money might as well go to a hotel where you can be pampered and comfy.

I would get a hotel. I'd be too stressed out traveling there for an hour and would want to travel as little as possible once I was ready

For simplicity’s sake I also vote hotel. The possibility of unexpected traffic/delays in rounding everyone up would personally stress me out too much. Our venue (a hotel) is literally around the corner from our apartment and I’m still getting ready on site LOL. Granted, the suite was included in our package and the guys will be getting ready at our place. Still, I’m looking forward to the luxury of it all.

But if your strong preference is to get ready at home, do what feels right for you! You have a limo - so it’s not like you’ll be cramped in the front seat of a sedan. You can spend the hour of travel time chatting with your bridal party or whoever’s travelling with you and enjoying a celebratory drink. That sounds like a great time. I just think adequate air conditioning and somebuffer time would be essential.

1 hour of travel time can feel long if traffic hour hits. Venues have a bridal suite to get ready for brides to be accommodated. Alternative suggestion is hotel room nearby keeping the drive short.

Yes- personally I’d do a hotel. My place is about 1 hr and 15 min from our venue (with no traffic lol) but I’m getting ready at my parents which is about 20 min from venue while hubby gets ready in a hotel.
