Venue increasing prices

Rebecca, on April 13, 2021 at 19:23 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7
Hi everyone!
I just got the contract for my wedding venue for sept 2022 and noticed the prices are very different from the wedding package they were referring to online.

Our dinner price went from $55 to $59/ plate, the reception and ceremony fees went up and the service fees went from 15% to 18%! I understand meal prices can change but I didn’t know the service fees could go up that much.
Has anyone else seen this happening in their contracts? Should I bring it up before signing the contract?

Its hard to believe venues can raise prices without notice on the contracts unfortunately. They will raise for every year despite being covid or shut downs. We had the same happen when we booked our venue and the price went up $10 p/p and the room rates. Its great to know they are informing you rather than charging you on the contract without notice.

This is happening more and more due to COVID, with or without a signed contract prior to. We signed in July 2019- and had no issues postponing our date the first two times. But our venue told us after April 2021 they were raising all prices regardless of contract. Our plates went up $7pp. Service fees are quite common at 18%.
I don’t feel it’s right... but at the end of the day, it’s still cheaper than signing something new at inflated prices. You can always try to negotiate a few extras in for the price maybe?

Price increases by inflation is common. If they sent you a package detailing one price but a contract with another, you can try to negotiate. And 18% is becoming more normal for service fees.

Unfortunately if you hadn’t signed a contract before with the old prices the venue has every right to increase the price. I think this is going to be very common for 2022 and 2023 in particular as many venues and other vendors have been losing so much money throughout the pandemic. They need to offset their losses from 2020 and 2021.
It’s also relatively common for venue prices to increase every couple of years anyway because things keep getting more expensive.

My fiance ad I are in the same boat. Our venue has increased their prices for 2022 as well. Almost $3000 from when we signed in 2018. Since we were only grandfathered in until 2021, we're going to have to pay the difference from what we had paid before. But they had given us a deal if we signed for a Friday or a Sunday wedding they're giving us a $1000 dollar discount.
