Venue frustration

Sheila, on November 9, 2021 at 11:06 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9
Mostly a rant…,Finding a venue for my wedding in 2022 is proving to be very difficult! Many places are already booked solid, and the one thing I was really hoping to have for my wedding, fireworks, are not allowed at any of the wedding venues in my city. So now I’m looking at getting married in the mountains instead, but the prices are so much more expensive! I’ve got the wedding planning blues!! I will likely have to give up on the fireworks want, it’s just hard to give up on something I’ve been dreaming about. You know what I mean??

Yes thank you, it is hard to reconcile the dream with reality! I’ll look into the smoke idea.

Unfortunately there’s also very limited venue availability in the city too. That’s a good idea about the floor sparklers though.

We are considering Banff now because of the flock of outdoor venues here. I agree that it’s strange there’s not more country venues here!

Wedding visions for what we want, yet can't get is the hardest thing to accept. I know where you're going with this rant and the sacrifices to make to make the day as beautiful. Venues do have certain restrictions and regulations to follow to avoid any troubles coming their way. I would suggest to consider other options of dry smoke over fireworks for a special effect for the first dance if that does make sense. Checking out pricing for that purpose would be good to know where you set the budget and if it will make the moment as special. I have seen machines that set off sparks around the dance floor while you dance to make that effect special too.

Personally, I would take the choice of more options in the city for less cost over fireworks. You can always source non-flammable floor sparklers that look like huge pyrotechnics (like the stuff they use on stage or for the circus). Most venues will allow those since they're not hot and aren't open flame.

I saw someone mention to look at venues that are not "NOTED" as a wedding venue, as some places cannot advertise this due to their other business main need. They may be more open for dates and to accommodate your needs.

I would think that in Saskatchewan there would be tons of wedding venues out in the country like Alberta. I am actually surprised about that.

I also agree 100% the inflated prices of all things related to weddings. It also does not help that they are increasing their prices for the following years, My best advice (as someone who was deciding where in Alberta they wanted to get married) is to first pick a few venues and have a few dates in mind that work for you and check them out. My fiancé and I spent all of October touring outdoor wedding venues. Make a detailed pros and cons list and make your final decision.

If you are open to travelling, I would really check out the ones in Alberta area as well because there is so many.

Where I am unfortunately there’s not a lot of venues that are in the country. There’s one golf course outside the city that allows fireworks but it is booked solid, including weekdays!

The other venders I would like to book are dependent on where we end up having the wedding. So can’t really book until venue is sorted out. I know that people have been waiting to get married, but it’s really highlighting the highly inflated prices of the wedding industry!

Unfortunately, 2022 is going to be crazier than 2021. So many places have been booked solid for a while and starting to book into 2023 that some venues are opening their 2024 books. Because of Covid, a lot of people had to post-pone 2020 weddings and also a lot of 2021 weddings because some places still did not allow weddings with large crowds and during these last 20 months people still got engaged. So there is a large amount of people booking.

As for the fireworks, I feel ya there. No places in the city will allow fireworks, they are allowed at the majority of the ones outside of the city and into the country.

If you are doing a wedding during the summer months, may I suggest maybe a Sunday or weekday wedding? I would also start booking all other vendors if your wedding is 8 months away because there will be like no one available. I speak from following a bunch of vendors and they have no more 2022 dates available and that was like 2 months ago.
