Venue dispute

Lindsay, on March 12, 2018 at 12:33 Posted in Wedding reception 0 11

Hey everyone,

I am just in the beginning of the wedding planning and their is a dispute over venue.

My fiance really likes his friends property who has 1000 acres (not that we obviously need that much), he said that we are more than welcome to have our wedding there, and guests can bring tents and trailers to stay the night.

My parents think that this is bad idea because it will not feel like a wedding (not intimate enough) and people will start to just go their trailers or tents after dinner and do their own thing.

I am wondering what you all think about, or if anyone has done a wedding where people stayed in tents and trailers, if people did start to wander off.

I think that sounds fun! In the end it will help with cost, if you are able to have it there for free (not needing to pay fee) or have it there dirt cheap Smiley smile And a little more relaxing, don't need to stress about restrictions.

If your parents are worried about ppl wondering off maybe have some activities set up, some yard games. That will keep ppl there without wandering.

That sounds super fun! People will NOT go back to their tents! I think it will make people feel more comfortable enjoying the night if they have a place to stay. Do what you feel reflects your relationship the most. Stay strong! Parents can be the most stressful part of a wedding! I would really enjoy that kind of wedding Smiley smile

We would have a bus that would take the people that do not want to stay in their (ie. grandparents) back to town.

Its a great idea! When you have people out of town and this is an option, people are more likely to stay over and make this effort. It helps them relax and doesn't cost them anything either as sometimes when traveling out of town can already be expensive. I have traveled 4 hours for a wedding before, paid to stay in a hotel and then meals on way there/back. it adds up fast, this is an amazing option for guests! People won't be wondering as they will be enjoying seeing everyone and dancing the night away

I think that's a great idea! Are there nearby accommondations for guests who don't have trailers/don't want to camp out?

I think worrying about guests wandering off, is a pretty unlikely thing to worry about.

The venue should be what you and your fiance want for your day. If you want casual or rustic or just outdoors, I think it could be a really good time! Just keep in mind you'll need to bring everything in for guests which can be a lot of work (ie. Tent, table, chairs, linens, decor, sound system (generator the sound system), bathrooms?)

Some of our guests had their trailers for our wedding and none of them went back there to socialize or do their own thing after dinner. We all hung around and danced or chatted near the camp fire. I don't think people will assume that because they are staying on site they can go do whatever they want at their trailer right after dinner.

We are doing our wedding this September at my future mother in laws, she has about 100 acres and had said people could camp there as well! it didn't even cross my mind that people would go back to their campers or tents early. Why would they want to leave the fun ! - that being said if they have young children or they are elderly then maybe, but i would be okay with that! I feel like if people are leaving early they probably wouldn't be camping at the same place, they will likely just go home. In my mind the people who will be camping at our will be the ones that CANT drive home Smiley smile

We went to a wedding last year that we camped out with our camper and we only went back to our camper after last call haha
We’re having a farm wedding this summer and invited our guests to bring their camping units and spend the night. We also have a shuttle for those who need a safe ride back to the city. I think it’s about what you both want. We both want a big country/farm wedding. I like that ppl have the choice to go back to their camper after the ceremony and have some drinks with other friends while we take pictures but we’ll have games and beverages set out for those who don’t want to do that. I think once we’re in the tent for the reception and dance it’ll be intimate and if ppl want to leave and go back to their camper I can’t stop them nor would I want to. We’re having 300 guests though so I’m not even about to worry about what they’re all doing! Lol Like I said it really just depends what you and your fiancé want your wedding to be and feel like. Smiley smile
