Unique Engagement photos?

Markie, on April 27, 2018 at 20:49 Posted in Before the wedding 0 25

My fiance is really turned off by the "cheesy & fake" (not trying to offend anyone!!) regular photos of couples laughing in a park. I convinced him to do them and said we could do something different. Any ideas?!

The fact that those were just a one year dating photos makes them even better. I hope you post your engagement photos once you get them!

Thanks - those were our 'one year dating' photos for fun at Disneyworld. We're getting our engagement photos this summer, but hope they'll be just as fun and adorable! Smiley winking

As long as you have the right photographers they can make it fun. Let them know what you want and they should be able to make it work, or even suggest locations that would suit your style more if you wanted.

I totally am with your fiancé where I hate the "fake and cheesy" engagement pictures. I'm hoping to do something in our home or more natural to us.

I agree with others - to each their own! My fiancé and I did a photoshoot at Magic Kingdom at Disney World for our 1 year anniversary of dating - yes, we did a lot of 'cheesy' posed shots, but because of the way the photographer dealt with it, very few felt that way. We wore 'us' cloths (I made my dress). Honestly, we'd sit/stand where we were told, and then my fiancé would whisper something stupid in my ear and make me laugh, or I'd reach over to touch his arm and try and get his attention, and the photographer would catch an amazing shot. Any photographer worth their salt will be able to catch the moments where your personalities shine through.

For our engagement pictures later this summer, we are going to Fort Edmonton historic park, and will have awesome historic backgrounds from 1830s to 1920s. We'll wear 'us' cloths again, and though we'll get some posed shots, we'll also just get fun candid shots - I have full faith in our photographer! It's also a great way to be 100% sure that we work well with her before the wedding day (not that we have any doubt!)

I think that as long as you do something that feels right for you as a couple then it is fine. Our wedding and engagement pictures couldn't be more different but we have friends who had similar ones and they were great too!

We also did some in graffiti alley!! I absolutely love how they turned out and loved that they were a little bit different and more “city” . We’re also going to do some in high park to get the outdoor pictures too!

If you don't want to feel posed then don't pose. Tell your photographer you're more interested in nature, candid photos then go for a walk and just have a good time. You'll find your self "posing" but naturally. Bring props, mix it up. Maybe have a couple beers or drink of choice in the photos.

Find a photographer maybe who you seem super comfortable with, and go to someplace both you and he feel really relaxed. Then be yourselves. Let the photographer work their magic. Explain you don't want to feel the traditional couple laughing in the park feeling. A good photographer will make it just right!

We haven't taken ours yet. Everyone has a different view of what is cheesy and corny. You have to pick something that represents the both of you. FH and I are passionate and romantic people. We don't want silly and goofy photos. We laugh and have fun, but we aren't silly goofy type of people. We want our surroundings in the pictures to be romantic. All our special places are too far away, but we are taking pictures of things we do/did. We go horseback riding and the photographer knows a ranch that will let us take pictures with a white horse. When we first started dating we went waterfall chasing so a waterfall is our second location. Our poses will be of us almost kissing, kissing and him holding me from behind.

When a cousin of mine was engaged their photos were prefect for them. One of their photos was her leaning towards the camera, sticking out her hand and pointing to the ring with a surprise look. He was behind her jumping high in the air doing a fist pump. That's not my style, but a loved it. It was so them. That's who they are.

We did our photos as a hike through Spencer Gorge in Hamilton. Of course we did a few posed shots but I wanted most of them to be natural and real. We had a friend of ours do them for us and I couldn't be more pleased with what came out of it. My fiance is a bit awkward and the fact that he was comfortable with the photographer and genuinely enjoying himself means that he has a beautiful smile in most of the pictures.

We had my dad a former pro-photographer) take pictures of use throughout our trip to the UK last summer. They were all candidates, and just planned in the moment. I think my tip would be not to worry too much about the look of your clothes and just have fun with it. Here is one of my favourite shots, which was actually just shot on my mom's cellphone!

Ours was done in the so-called "cheesy and fake" (im peeved at the term!) b/c it was the perfect way to show our personalities. we just told our photog what we wanted and he made it happen, and the sheer coincidence was that weekend we were also celebrating our 9th year together (along with his birthday!) so we wanted these to not only be us but done in a place that held meaning for us.

I was inspired by Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas. They just showed their hands with the ring. I thought it was sweet.

We LOVE the graffiti city feel-howecer our wedding photos are going to be downtown.
Is it weird if both engagement and wedding photos are similar?

Oh they are always beautiful and sweet!! Just feel fake for some of us because it's posed or set up in ways we have never been or wouldn't ever do. Not bashing on people who like those photos to each their own! It just doesn't work for some and they don't like how they turn out.

We had my fiancé sister take some. I didn’t want cheesy ones either my fiancé hates photos. So these are the ones that were sent out. We got a lot of response back as this felt more like us having fun and being ourselves

I agree! Those photos work for some people but I'm not one to pose and smile while standing beside a tree?? Haha!! We're doing engagement photos in the city, one in Toronto in the graffiti alley which will be popping with amazing colours! And then another in the distillery district for a more modern rustic flare of photos. Both very city-esque which suits us so much better! We will likely have the cheesy photos but with the better backgrounds that will help us!
Check out Pinterest boards for photo ideas I have saved so many on there to do... I'm going to try and incorporate my fiancé's and my cars into some photos for fun too! Maybe the dog will join hahah!!

My cousin actually did a reel video of reality vs love sotey movie that really shows their personality. It's in Pilipino (there in the Philippines) some english. you should check it out to get an idea. Here is the link
