Types of petals?

Steph, on June 30, 2019 at 05:30 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 15
Hiya lovelies!

So our wedding is October 2020, and we're having an outdoor ceremony with an indoor reception. Our main colour is like a plum-eggplant-sangria type of shade with hints of lavender, white, and a little splash of soft turquoise for fun.

I was hoping for eggplant coloured petals for the aisle but I don't want the colour to release onto the flower girls' hands/dresses. So now I'm hoping the petals can be like a lavender shade, but I dont know what petals would look similar to a rose petal but cost less and maybe already come in a lavender type of shade with minimal colouring.

We're also hoping to have petals scattered on the edge of the head table (sweetheart, halfmoon shape) and the cake table, as well as lightly in the center of the guest tables around the centerpieces. Should I use the same petals as I did outdoors?

We haven't decided on our main flower yet, which I know would be super helpful. Our florist was saying maybe dahlias for minimal colouring or even carnations but I worry about carnations looking cheap. Even though they're beautiful.

Clearly I'm all over the place (sorry!) So if you have any thoughts I'm all ears! Or, I guess eyes since I'm reading them lol

Thanks a bunch!

That sounds beautiful! She's gonna be great, I can't wait to see photos of it after!❤ I'm actually looking into buying confetti punchers so that we can gather a bunch of leaves and punch little shapes out of them. The guests would get a recycled-paper cone with little leaf confetti in them to toss after we're announced as mr & mrs and walking back down the aisle.

I'm gonna look into silk petals for the tables in the reception. I need the real ones for the ceremony since it'll be outdoors and the gotta be ecofriendly in case they blow away. But definitely checking out silks for indoors...the budget will appreciate it 😂 thanks!

I would be totally fine with silk petals even for the inside tables, but the ceremony is outdoors so they need to be real in case they blow away before getting tidied up. But I'm gonna look into the silk ones for indoors because that would be helpful. Thanks for the link and the idea!

We are actually using leaves... our wedding is October this year and we are letting our flower girl, my daughter, pick leaves that have fallen and use them.

I agree with Allison in using silk petals, not only will there no colour transfer but it might also be more budget friendly.

I'd recommend silk petals if you aren't dead set on having real petals for your aisle. We're using silk petals for our flower girl to toss down the aisle before I walk down. You don't have to worry about colour transfer/staining.

There's a shop on Etsy that specialises in silk rose petals and the owner is really good to work with brides to get the right colours for you wedding:

Wanted to add pictures to show you what it would look like. Varieties of dark tones (above). New combination (below). Turquoise is just a bit much to be honest to add to the bunch.

Hope this vision is helpful and to guide you in the direction your aiming for.

I see your vision and the way you have set the colours based on food or scent go:

    Plum - Maroon

    Eggplant - Dark Purple

    Sangria - Dark Red

Lavender - Dark Purple or Blue

The view is very dark with the dahlias to lighten up the colours. However, if a suggestion can be made; it would be to go Macintosh apple Red to bring a medium colour into the effect to balance the colours and go Light lilac or sky blue.

This combination does would bring all your varieties together in the different shades with the dahlias you like to have included in the choice.

    New Vision vs. Chosen Vision

Plum - Maroon Plum - Maroon

Eggplant - Dark Purple Eggplant - Dark Purple

Sangria - Dark Red Macintosh Apple - Light Red

    Lavender - Dark Purple Lilac/Blue Skies - Light Purple/Blue
