Types of Food for Catering

Becky, on August 2, 2018 at 09:48 Posted in Wedding reception 0 15

I'm curious to what types of foods everyone had served at their wedding or plan to! I have debated on a few different styles of food.

Typical roast beef/chicken dinner (costly)

Chinese buffet style huge variety (half cost)

Debating on what to do! they are both good reputable catering companies but if we do Chinese food we could invite the amount we want and it would still be half the cost. if we do the typical roast beef dinner we can only invite a certain amount of people and would have to cut numbers. I just don't know if this is out of norm doing a diff type of style of food. However I have been to weddings lately where they have food trucks! that's really neat to see and diff foods.

We are having tradional roast beef, potatoes and corn with salads. I am able to do this for 17.00 a plate catered.

I never thought of chinese food, that would have been a great idea! I found go with the cheaper idea and invite more people would be my reccomendation!!

I like the idea of Chinese food! It's something different and way cheaper so go for it!

We're doing a plated meal (Italian), but we didn't really have many options for our venue.

We're having Lebanese at ours, mainly shawarma platters chicken and vegetarian! Go for Chinese if that's what you want! I think it's kind of nice that weddings are not the usual fanfare where we see the same food everywhere.

I love Chinese food I think that would be awesome and you can invite everyone you want to which I think is more important to have your loved ones there and not regret not being able to invite someone.

Were doing a mixed buffet! Indian and Western food! Mixed backgrounds we thought a buffet would be best to have the most food options available to everyone! I'm so excited for it!!

Chinese food sounds great! If I had that option for my wedding and it was half the price, I wouldn’t think twice. Haha. I have been to a lot of weddings, and there is 2 that I remember the dinner for. Neither of them were “traditional” but both fantastic.

Very true! and the biggest part for me right now is not excluding any family members or having to pick only certain people. He has very large family and mine is small but with only family/wedding party its 115 people. we would like to be able to invite all close friends as well

That sounds amazing!! and that's a huge difference in people! that's what I was thinking I can include everyone instead of only some because of the cost of meal

People will only remember the food if it is really great, or if it is really awful, and they won't remember what they ate! I think Chinese is completely fine for a wedding! Especially if it means being able to invite more people. For me, I would rather have more people than more traditional food.

    Chinese food sounds yummy!

My fiancé and I are purposely steering clear of the traditional 'wedding' food. No one remembers that meal, unless it was terrible, and the usual wedding meal costs a pretty penny, too!

So we are sticking to very 'us' foods through a reputable caterer - fun, comfortable, and everyone likes them! Our main dinner is a taco buffet (beef and chicken, hard and soft shells) with a 12 topping bar, along with a green salad, a pasta salad and Mexican rice side dish. Our midnight supper is going to be a gourmet hotdog buffet with a 14 topping bar, and chips. Our entire food cost for our 200 person wedding is 4500$ including tax and tip, full set up and tear down, all the dishes and utensils and a cook and server on site.

I would go with the Chinese food if I were you - who actually like's "wedding" food anyway right??

We are having Danny's Whole Hog at our wedding. This will be pulled pork, caesar salad, rolls, chicken pieces (for those who don't like pork), and baked potatoes with all the fixings.

It is for sure cheaper and tastes a whole lot better IMO. (This allows us to have 250 guests instead of 125)
