Two locations or One location for wedding?

Mimi, on March 27, 2019 at 21:06 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5

Hello again! I'm sorry for asking a lot of questions here. It's really nice to have opinions on how to do this wedding planning thing.. really really grateful for wedding wire community.

So, me and FW decided we love Coutts as our ceremony venue. We love it so much that we are willing to provide bus transport for guest Calgary to/from Nanton. It is so beautiful that I wouldn't even need to decorate the ceremony site.

But we are really not a fan of the tented reception. They mentioned that they are building a barn-like structure in place of the tent at Fall 2019 or Spring 2020. Our wedding date is October 2020. and they mentioned if the structure is not done by then, we will have the tented reception. The problem is we travel 6 months of the year for work, and I'm not sure we can worry about the structure not done or done while we are away.

Another option we are considering is having the ceremony at Coutts and the reception at The Commons Calgary. I love The Commons because they provide a 3 day rental to set up and tear down. and the Chandeliers are soooo beautiful. We are willing to provide transportation for guests as well and maybe even have a carpool system.

Budget wise... The rental of two locations costs more than one location. It's a 3:1 ratio. (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post rates, maybe private message me if you want to know?) So, should I just stick to one location or two location?

If the tent reception really isn't doing it for you, I'd have the reception at the Commons. There's a chance the barn is built on time, but with most renovations/construction projects, things run late.

If it's in the budget to go with both places, that's what I would do!

Are these heated tents or just loose tents? If you really hate it and can afford to have 2 venues, I'd go with the place in Calgary. I know there's a chance that you might have a barn that's ready, but that's a big chance you're taking. I'd personally take the peace of mind and go with the second location!

If your preference is to have 2 locations, and you can budget for both then I would definitely go for both.

we have two different locations (church and then golf course reception). It’ll be about a 30 minute drive between the two. No one has complained, they’re really excited for the golf course!

Personally I would go with just the Coutts Centre. Tents aren't the worst thing possible - and if they say it should be done maybe there could be something in the contract that says if it isn't then they make up for it somehow?

I know me and my FH booked our venue when all they had was a blueprint for the venue and a piece of land! It can get done, but then again it was ready for just this past summer and our wedding is this fall...

If it's in your budget and having your ceremony at one place and your reception at another than go for it. The way you talk about each place sounds like that's what you want and how you picture your day. Also if you love the decor at each location then you won't have to worry about adding too much.
