Trial is that necessary?

Mary, on May 15, 2019 at 20:44 Posted in Beauty 0 10
I am hesitant to go for hair and makeup trial. The reason being is that it’s costing me the same price of the wedding date hair and makeup. It would be $350 for the trial and 350 for the date. I’m thinking to skip the trail. Do you think it is a big mistake?

I did a trial last week because I never wear make up or really do anything with my hair. I was lucky though because my auntie was the one that did my make up and my MOH did my hair. They both turned out great and didn't cost anything!

That's SUPER expensive regardless.......... I would look around more to be honest. That's a lot. but in regards to a trial, yes I think it would be a mistake to skip it. They do a trial for several reasons. So they know how to work with you, so you can tweek things and tell them what you want, so you can make sure your skin isn't going to have a reaction to the make up, so you can test having the make up on for the whole day and see how it holds up...... you don't want any surprises.

The artist had better be out-of-this-world at that price!
If you can, like Bianca suggested, shop around a little more.
My MUA strongly suggests a trial (also the same cost as the wedding day) to see if I react to any of the makeup she uses.
Thankfully she has worked with my photographer a lot so she’s going to do my ‘trial’ for my engagement shoot. (Hair and makeup won’t be identical but she’ll get an idea of how my hair works and what times look good on my skin.)

That is crazy that she is charging you the same amount for both the day of and the trial. I think it depends on what you want for your hair and makeup. If you are doing both really simple and you know that it's what you want then it should be ok to skip it.

My makeup artist doesn’t do trials either unfortunately- she believes her best will happen and it’s at cost. She’s very good but I want to make sure I know what I want and if what I want will even look good. If she’s reputable, then I wouldn’t worry about the trials. Just make sure you know what you want and send/ show her photos to verify she can do it

Uhm that's crazy $$, perhaps look at getting a different stylist like Bianca said or see what the charge is for a non bridal updo and book that with the same stylist as your trial so you still build a relationship but aren't paying $350. I don't mean to offend any stylist out there but to me an updo is an updo. Just bc you say bridal doesn't mean you should be charged more.

I think a trial is important for sure. But not for the same price as the day of. Many places I saw the trial was included, or discounted.
Personally I would make sure to do a trial just in case you don’t like the hair or makeup. This way there is a chance to fix it for the day of

The trial should be a bit cheaper in my experience, or in some cases included as a nice gesture. But a lot I have seen has not been included just at a reduced rate. For sure a trial is important so that you and your stylist know your vision and there are no last minute guesses or issues.

That's really bizarre to me - most trials are apart of the wedding package but for my wedding I'm having my BM do hair and a friend of a friend do the makeup so I'm not sure what cost would be. I would just assume it's less than the day of as it's okay to mess up on the trial and time it takes...

That seems like a lot of money for a trial. Have you searched around for other hair and makeup artists?

I think it’s necessary so you and your artist have a similar understanding and expectations of how you want your hair and makeup done on your big day. This also gives you both the opportunity to get to know each other and try out different looks ☺️
