Too much entertainment?

JuneBride, on April 27, 2018 at 11:04 Posted in Wedding reception 0 9

The food will be Italian/Portuguese mix (4 course meal, open bar and the midnight buffet) and his mother is having her Irish dance school perform right at the beginning of dinner, after we do our first dance. We are looking into having bagpipes at the ceremony and our wedding rings have a Celtic knot. He says the only thing missing is something that represents my Spaniard side. He thinks we should look into getting Flamenco dancers to perform at the end of the dinner, begging of dessert. As much as I love the idea, I'm thinking that's too much entertainment. I'm thinking we are better off just having the Irish dancers and the mirror booth and not squeeze in another performer because we are also having our first dance, father daughter dance and mother son dance. We are still trying to figure out the timeline. What is your opinion? Just have Irish dancers and mirror booth? Have both entertainers and get rid of the mirror both or keep all three?

I personally think it's a lot of entertainment but you should have what's important to you on your day and if that means adding in dancers to represent your heritage, then go for it!

Personally i do agree thats too much entertainment. There is lots of food to enjoy and seems less time for dancing. The guests will want to enjoy your celebrations.

I like the idea of incorporating cultural aspects so I think you should do it! Some weddings have lots of speeches, so you could just have lots of dances instead!

If it is all spread out then it would be great, it just depends how your timeline is going to workout with everything. I've been to a wedding that had 3 different performers and it was nicely spread out so it wasn't too much too close together

I love the idea! I don’t think you NEED it but I think it’d be awesome. As a guest I wouldn’t want to be sitting for too long though so I can understand why you think it might be too much. I think the sooner you get the party started the better so people don’t get too restless from listening to speeches, watching entertainment and first dances.

I like this idea. The music, or a little decor, could be a more time and money saving option.

Since it's your side's heritage, it's up to you if you want to include something bigger or not. I definitely see where you're coming from... where guests could end up spending a lot of time sitting at their tables... I think it depends on how long your reception is going to be, and how long the performances are...

You could always have Flamenco music playing while the guests arrive and while they find their seats at dinner. Less cost than an actual performer and also represents your Spaniard side. Otherwise I would keep it as is.

That's what I'm thinking. the just the Irish dancers will be fine. They will be preteens and teens so it will be cute. I don't think we need anymore than that.

Photobooths/mirror booths tend to be used most during the dancing and after all the "official" things are over, so I would say that could be kept, just make sure if you have it booked for a specific amount of hours that you maybe have them come later in the evening, rather than earlier.

It does sound like a lot of entertainment, and while I am sure your guests may enjoy it, depending on when your reception begins, guests could be sitting and listening to speeches/dances/entertainment for several hours and not get to dance themselves until quite late in the evening. Maybe pick one entertainment option, it will not only save you money but give you the opportunity to enjoy other parts of the wedding. Maybe represent your Spanish side in another way (an ornament on the tables, some Spanish words/quotes around the room, a shout out to your spanish roots in the speech etc...)
