Too early to buy a dress?

Catherine, on September 19, 2018 at 16:47 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 3
So my sister's bought their dresses at this boutique, who has gorgeous stuff. I was planning to buy my dress there too but they are closing. My wedding will be May 2020, which is in quite a while, so i am not ready to go dress shopping. It feels too soon. However everything is on sale, so it's a good opportunity to go see. My mom is pushing us to go, while I sort of feel like waiting. Not sure what to do :/ i wanted a long engagement to take my time and not rush, but I am getting all of this pressure.

Thanks guys! I figured I would call and book to just go look. In case you know. As you said, no need to go in thinking I will be buying something, but simply browse and try on a few things. In the end the lady said they only have ballgowns, which I really don't want so I cancelled. I felt it wasn't worth the trip and hassle if there was very little left to see.

I agree with everything Brittany is saying - go but don't force yourself into a mindset that you are there to buy.

And if you do love a dress, if it's cheap enough that you would still be able to get another dress if you change your mind in the course of 8-10 months - then buy it!

You may as well go, if you think it will be a fun experience with your mom and sisters to try on dresses... but unless it's the dress of your dreams at a beyond unbelievable price, I wouldn't buy your dress just yet.

My opinion on what I wanted to wear changed so many times, not only after my engagement, but even before... I even ended up with a dress I didn't think I would...

There will always be a sale or trunk show somewhere if finding a deal is important, however, I think this far out from the wedding, you'll find your taste, vision, and style will change, even if only slightly. (Sometimes completely changes)...

Your venue, season, colour palette, mood, decor, grooms outfit, bridesmaids dresses, etc... can all be varying factors contributing to a dress choice, to create an overall cohesive look. If you buy the dress first, you may find yourself trying to match everything else to the dress. Which isn't a bad thing, just something to consider.

    Good luck!
