To spray tan or not to spray tan

Seleena, on December 17, 2018 at 14:23 Posted in Beauty 0 15

Hi there! My wedding is not for a while, but I have a question. To spray tan or not to spray tan? I have never actually spray tanned in my life so I am terrified of looking like an oompa loompa. I am pretty fair skinned and burn easily. When I do tan, I usually have the worst tan lines of life. If you have spray tanned before your wedding, let me know how that went (pictures would be helpful). Thanks Smiley smile

I'm doing a mix... I'm going to be tanning about half a dozen times the 2 weeks leading up to the wedding, and I was going to do a "trial run" spray tan tonight actually... I bought a spray tan package years ago, and only used 1 of the 3... you NEED to exfoliate heavily, to really make sure it goes on even/reduces patchiness/loss of colour... HOWEVER, unless you go for a really brown/bronzy look, and a QUALITY spray tan at a salon (one that doesn't rub off on everything)... DON'T risk it.....

If you decide to, go for a trial.... buy a white shirt/top/dress from a thrift store and wear it... see how the shirt turns out... Then decide from there.

If you're not opposed to/scared of tanning beds, I'd just look for sales to go on at a nearby tanning salon (Boxing Day, for example), and buy a package, then just tan with the bed. It's actually a tan, so it won't rub off, and it looks much more natural/lasts longer.

If you can tan by using beds it will give you a more natural look; but most individuals with type 1 skin tone cannot tan with beds. For people using beds, your results rely heavily on the tanning lotion you use. For the lightest and most natural looking tan I would suggest a lotion with no bronzers in it; those lotions just help the natural process with vitamins and essential oils. For people who want a darker tan I’d suggest fox tanning products (you can order the fox tan lotions online) which give you the best bang for your buck while looking natural and staying away from red and orange tones. I do use bronzers but that’s more of a personal preference; lotions can be expensive so I always suggest fox tanning products to anyone looking for a time sensitive result. Stay away from any lotion that has a tingler.

That definitely sucks! It probably would be good just to even it out then! I personally just burn so I’m always so layered in sunscreen I’m just as pale in the summer as I am on the winter lol.

This is a great idea! I used tanning beds for about 3 months before my sisters wedding but I think I was a tad too tanned for my liking. A month sounds like a good idea 👌🏻

Oh thanks for all the information! I might just have to resort to a few tanning beds instead of spray tanning. I totally know about the bridesmaid thing, I am pretty pale/pink skin toned and my sister chose bright coral dresses for her bridesmaids. I tanned for like 3 months before her wedding lol

Nooooooooo! You will lose your tan on your dress! I dont care what anyone says, the spray tan will rub off from heat/sweat/wear and tear. I'm a hairstylist and see it so often where girls come in and start turning everything orange before they even put their dresses on!

If you’re going to do it, do it early on to see how you feel first! If you’re like me and you’re super pale/pink 90% of the time, you might not like being spray tanned. I’m personally not going to but I’m also having a November wedding so I don’t really have much to worry about tan lines nor will I have gotten burnt, September you might have some left, depending on the kind of weather this summer brings!

Try it now beforehand. I'm a "tanner" ... I tan at least twice a week but I use tanning beds. I'm more olive complexion so I tan really easily but my sister is fair skinned, and she's been making lots of comments about spray tanning due to the colours I've pulled for bridesmaid dresses. I know she's self conscious about it so I've been looking into options for her, but honestly I will say from now that spray tanning is definitely a stage by stage thing that won't give you insane results the first session. I would stay away from salons where you walk in and do it yourself and go with someone mobile who will spray tan you physically; they're trained and more knowledgeable about even application than leaving it up to your own devices. look for reviews on google or yelp, or instagram. But trust me ladies; one application will NOT give you that horrid orange burnt look. That comes from multiple applications, using beds too frequently with high-bronzer tingling lotions and using creams by yourself.

If you haven't done it before I would definitely try it before hand. It may not turn out as planned and you definitely wouldn't want that right before the wedding. I considered it but since I am very fair and don't tan on a good day I didn't want to look unnatural.

I’m very fair skinned. My bridesmaids wanted to take me for a spray tan but I am going to do tanning beds about a month ahead of the wedding instead. We wil be honeymooning in the carrabean afterwards so the tanning bed will give me a base coat while the spray tan will only be on the surface of my skin.

If you do go with the spray tan I recommend what Rachel said and to try it beforehand.

I am going to give it a try!!! I go from white to red in the sun but a little glow might be nice! My friend went to the tanning booths at GoodLife and said it was awesome! She did 4 or 5 sessions for her wedding and had a wonderful tan! It was a bit darker than I would go with but I am for sure going to give a session or 2 a try sometime soon to see what it's like!

I am also worried about how it would come out, as i have never done it myself. I would hate to look like i have a fake tan on the wedding day D: . Perhaps go try it out a few months before the big day? See if you like it, and if you don't it will wash off before the wedding.

If you haven’t done it before, you may not like the way it turns out and/or looks in pictures so if you’re leaning toward doing it, I think it would make sense to try it beforehand to get a feel for it!

I haven’t done it personally (as I’m West Indian), but whatever you decide to do, best of luck!
