To dj or not to dj

Amanda, on August 6, 2019 at 14:02 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9

What are you guys thinking for your wedding music?

I was on the fence about hiring a DJ for the longest time. It was an extra cost that I really wanted to avoid so I kept bouncing around other possibilities ie: playlists, cellphones, etc.

Anyways, I reached out to what felt like a million DJ's for pricing and packages and finally find one that was reasonable. She altered the times a little bit so she would finish earlier but play music during the ceremony at no extra cost which was awesome. We had a song we wanted to play while we all walked in and then she made suggestions for signing music and an exit song and they were amazing.

After all the wondering about whether or not I wanted a DJ it turned out to be one of my favourite parts of the whole day. She was amazing, the dance floor was full the entire night, she was fun, and she signed my guest book at the end of the night and left me her song list and all the music she had down for herself - I thought that was a great little keepsake for me to have. I got so many compliments from my guests too - people said it was the best wedding they had ever attended and it was awesome how packed the dance floor was the whole time.

So if you're looking for a DJ in Ontario I strongly recommend checking out Lady Frequency events. Below is the link to her WW profile.

I have a friend who is doing it at a significant discount, but if I didn’t - I wasn’t going to have a DJ.. it’s a big expense and most people are tech savvy these days and know how to arrange a playlist and rent some speakers.

I’m also putting a line on my invitations that say “I promise to dance if you play _______” and the guest will send their reply on their RSVP. This way I have definite music that people will enjoy!

I think it can be as much fun as you make it, either way! Smiley smile

We never thought about doing it ourselves! We knew the decision was between a band or a DJ and very quickly agreed on a DJ. We recently went to a wedding where they made their own playlist and they had mostly music that they listened to so there wasn’t much variety at all. Most of the guests had never heard majority of the songs before so they didn’t really get into the dancing. Some guests wanted to make requests but couldn’t because it would mess up the playlist.. it made us thankful we had a DJ and avoided all those problems.

That's great you chose a DJ and she worked to your styles and listening to your inquisitions. Guests dancing on the dancefloor is always a good sign that the music is good and the DJ selections keep them going through the evening.

We too had a DJ and he was amazing which compliments were given after the day. As you enjoyed your time, ours did the same by getting guests on the dance floor.

We never even considered not having a DJ; we didn't want the added stress of dealing with it ourselves and preferred the variety that a DJ can offer over a band. We actually only met with one DJ - Music Central Entertainment in London. We got a really good vibe from them so we didn't feel the need to shop around any more. Plus they came highly recommended by our venue and have been doing weddings there for decades so they'll be able to just show up and sort out what they need to without any guidance at all.

We knew we wanted a DJ from the beginning. I really didn't want the added stress and potential for technical difficulties that doing our own music would entail.

We chose Something Blue Wedding DJs. I like that they are a company that solely does weddings as I don't want the music to come across as being 'clubby'. They've worked at our venue before which is good.

I knew that we wanted a DJ right off the bat - they know how to fill a dance floor and are able to mix different genres without it being awkward.

Our DJ's main promises are that they don't do 'lame' weddings and a packed dancefloor is a priority. The company is called DJ Alpha and our DJ is DJ 6step!

Super amazing! A DJ really can feel the room and the guests, and it makes it a lot less stressful on us while planning!

We knew we wanted a DJ (FH was in a band, and as cool as it is to have live music, every song sounds the same, and they can only play so long before needing a break etc) and finding one was actually pretty easy for us.

Our venue puts out a list of preferred vendors and our DJ was on it. Its Spirit of Sound in Niagara Falls. They have been around for a while, and at our venue many times, so they are very familiar with the space!

My FH knew he wanted to hire a DJ he had worked with a ton at his banquet hall where my FH used to bartend.

this was really all on my FH, I don’t know our DJ that well but he is very popular in the wedding industry and spins on Z103.5 (radio station in Toronto)! So I know he’ll be good.

He also has experience with lots of european weddings and we need both English and polish music, so that was important.

His company is Music in Motion Djs located in Mississauga. They also so do photo booths as well I think and other things!
