To diy or not to Diy..?

Rebecca, on April 26, 2018 at 16:16 Posted in DIY 0 24
So I’m having a dilemma !
My vision was to have tall vases as centrepieces with large flowers on top.. after being quoted CRAZY prices by florists I’ve been reconsidering Smiley sad
BUT I’ve seen some tutorials and have checked it a few wholesale flower providers and I totally think I can pull it off. Of course I’m still a little nervous about tackling this... all those “what if’s” lol

does anyone plan on DIYing their own centrepieces or flowers ?

When I think about putting them all together the night before the wedding.. I’m not so sure lol

Rent them instead as i did find it cheaper. I found a place that made it easy and affordable than to purchase. Large floral ball with the vase.

I'm DIYing my centrepieces; we are doing potted plants so they will be completed beforehand.

I think DIYing can be a money saver and fun, if you know what you're doing! I would suggest practicing one beforehand. Then, keep practicing so you can do it quicker (using something else, like sticks, for the flowers so you don't have to keep buying them!)

Yes I went with my daughters to see them in person. They are both in there late 20ties and they loved them. Thought they were a great idea. Go see them. Make an appointment with her to go see them. If you need her contact info let me know. Good luck whatever you decide.

Thank you for your help. I too am concerned about them looking fake; I've never seen wooden flowers in person. The photos look nice. I may have to take a trip to the store one weekend. I like the thought of having the flowers around even after the wedding.

Sorry I did forget to mention that yes we are getting all our flowers from her. Flower girls and bridesmaids and my bouquet and Ben the ones for the men and my parents as his parents have been gone a long time.

Yes we will go pick them up about a month to three weeks before our wedding. We went to her store to see her displays and to discuss pricing but she also does email. We started with email but as she’s so close I wanted to see for myself in person what the flowers looked like. Didn’t want them to look fake. Lol and they don’t depending on the styles and colors you choose.

I agree with this! We are doing tall vases with flowers at the top and I want to DIY them to save on costs. It's hard to do! I have been doing trial runs with fake flowers I've bought from Amazon and honestly 2 of my experiments haven't really worked or haven't really saved on costs at the end after all the work out in....
If you can do a trial run yourself with the look you're trying to go for before you decide to do them all the night before that sounds like a huuuge amount of work!

Thank you for sharing this. I'm going to see what the prices are like. They look pretty. Are you getting a package for your whole bridal party? How did you find her prices? Will you pick them up?

I'm buying all my flowers online at Alibaba.com. They'll be fake, but they're good quality silk and look really nice still. You might consider this as a an option!

I'm DIYing my centrepieces, but I won't have as many flowers in mine.

We made our centerpieces. We had beer and wine bottles with ribbons on them and lights in them and then 2 potted plants.

If you really plan to do this have you considered where you will store the flowers the night before? The temperature has to be specific for some types of flowers, so just be careful!

We are diy our centrepieces. But they are not as tall as yours. I got small little boxes from michaels and we are planting succulents in them.

OH girl! That is a big undertaking for you on the night before your wedding!! My cousin is a florist and I’ve seen the amount of work that goes into the tall vases, the pricing is correct! I would do a trial run if anything and figure out how many flowers you will actually need!

I’m using Sola Flowers out of Hamilton. She is the only one right now in Canada that makes flower out of wood. You have to check it out. She does everything from the brides flowers right down the the flowers girl, flowers for your tables and everything

It's a wedding warehouse - they sell all kinds of stuff. It's located in Mississauga on Pacific Circle.

I’m making mine but we’re just using baby’s breath. I would say you got this! I think a trial run is a good idea

I'm DIYing my centrepieces - I got tall cases from Canexcel a wedding warehouse (Mississauga/Brampton) and am using waterbeads for the inside decor.
I'm also making my bridesmaids bouquets - I got faux flowers from dollar tree and Michaels and put them together using floral wire and tape and wrapped it in burlap. I think it turned out nice

Diy but with faux flowers! The vases are tall so no one can really tell if they’re fake or not and that means you can do it far in advance. Why not try doing 1. I was just there and they were having buy 1 get one free on flowers.

A company who I found for flowers had a great deal for a package consisting of bouquets boutennieres ceremony flowers head table sweet table and tall centrepieces. Check if they might be in your budget? The company is blooms studio in Toronto.

We are DIYing our centerpieces but they don't have floral elements (see below). I would recommend doing a test one to see how difficult/time-consuming they are and how you like it. We are doing a test run too, but of course it will be super simple!

We’re DIYing our centrepiece flowers, but our centrepieces are a bit simpler than those ones. I agree that it would be good to do a practice one, and then you can see whether it’s doable or too big of an undertaking.

Do a trial run! Check out Michaels or other local craft shops and get everything you think you need, including fake flowers. The ones from Michael's are realistic looking for the most part. We also plan to DIY our centre pieces so we will do a few trials to see what works and what doesn't.
