Timeline goes for everything to book though you may find the one that will work to your best interest and your requests. We luckily found one 6 months ahead of time and available reading the reviews to ensure he was the one and same characteristics as myself which worked out. I am still waiting for our officiant to confirm the possibility of officiating our wedding. As he has to confirm his license information.


Wish us luck, because I am comfortable with him (former church associate pastor) as I don’t want to go through a process with anyone else. 😢

I booked them fairly early. Someone said an officiant is someone you NEED to get married. If you want to find an officiant you love, I would book 1 year or more out especially with all covid postponements

We booked our officiant about 14 months before our wedding!

I don't think there's any harm booking someone early as long as they don't mind. Your officiant is also arguably the most important vendor of all because without them you won't actually be able to get married. I wouldn't want to leave that until a few months before the wedding!

I booked ours before we booked anything else haha! Though it's a good friend of ours who is in ministry right now so we wanted to make sure he could legally perform it by our date! ... Once we booked the venue we confirmed the date with him.

If you have someone in mind I'd talk to them as soon as possible, with all the rebookings they'll be scheduled quite far in advance. You can get married in a home without a photographer you can't get married without an officiant.

It depends! My fiancé and I are getting married by a pastor from my church, and we’re over a year out and have secured him for our day. We also have religious counseling as apart of the marriage process, so for us over a year out is good.
From what I’ve heard from friends that non-religious leaders may be more booked due to covid cancellations. I’d inquire now, and ask for their opinions. Its never too early to book any vendor. We booked everything else early because covid was causing vendors to be unavailable for our day, so after a few fell through we scrambled to find photography & floral.

Of course! It's never too early to book vendors. That way you have it done and don't have to worry about it 5 months before the wedding and scrambling for someone who is available for your date

Although Wedding Wire says to book 4-6 months before the wedding on the checklist/time line, Since there has been so many postponements I would start inquiring now - its a year out and dates between June - September fill up quick without the people who have had to postpone for two years now.

My fiance and I booked ours about a year and a half from our original wedding date. Dates for them do fill up fast if they only can do one ceremony per day
