Thoughts on having a toddler as a groomsman??

Cassandra, on December 10, 2019 at 20:16 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 6
I have 4 bridesmaids. My fiance has intended on having 4 as well so we can have an even number, but have had 2 people back out already. He isn't close with anyone else and reluctant to add someone else he barely knows for the sake of numbers. However, my nephew who is 2 adores my fiance and my fiance adores him. What are your thoughts on having a 2 year old groomsmen? (He's currently 1 of 2 ring bearers). I just can't get over having 4 girls 3 guys. I'm super picky and want the same number on each side.

I doubt a 2 year old will be able to stand at the front with the groomsmen during the ceremony. And I doubt he will stick around for pictures, so most of those will be uneven anyway. You’re welcome to have him as a groomsmen, but I bet things will still be uneven because the 2 year old will have a shorter attention span than the adults.
My nephew was a month away from being 3 at my wedding. He was walking down the aisle with a Here comes the bride sign. He was the most excited child leading up to the wedding. Everything was fine at the rehearsal. Day of the wedding: he was grumpy. Ran up the side aisle instead of the centre, didn’t hold the sign with two hands like at rehearsal, and wouldn’t smile for our family picture. I wanted one of my husband and I with just our nephews, but the two year old was done after the family photo so we skipped that.
So, if you do have him, just realize things may not happen as planned.

The positive of being a ring bearer is he walks up and that’s it. If he’s up with the groomsmen, you’ll have to be conscientious of timing. Toddlers aren’t always the best at standing still for too long 😛 if you think he can make it though the ceremony unfazed, then sure. It might just be easier on the little guy to keep his job short.

The toddler would be great standing at the altar. Keeping him as the ring bearer is fine and a better place in the wedding.

Thank you!! Both his mom and dad are bridesmaid and groomsmen - he would be his mom's "partner." There's a lot to consider and it would be much easier if we had more adult companions haha

It could be cute! As long as his parents are nearby (I assumed they would be for his role as ring bearer anyway) in case he gets distracted or nervous.

And I probably wouldn't invite him to the bachelor party...
Visually the two sides will still be off balance as he will likely be a few feet shorter than the other groomsmen. I would ask yourself if that would bother you more than an empty spot.
