I always assumed no but have received gifts from guests not attending.

Traditionally yes. Personally depending on how close I am to the bride and groom I would send a gift.

I would think traditionally, yes, send a gift.

Traditionally, yes, but a smaller gift, not as much as you'd give if you attended the wedding. Granted we had people who attended pre-wedding parties AND the wedding and didn't even give us a card SOOOOO....

    Yes!

(at the very least a card...and it's bad luck to give an "empty" card)

Yes! My FH and I do this if we can't attend, we usually send a monetary gift though.

    A) Yes!

Regardless if it's a gift of money or from their registry.

    B. No.

But then I believe you never HAVE to give a gift, anyway.

I mean... this is more of personal opinion... I would say technically you don't have to - like a birthday party you can't attend, you don't send the kid to school with a gift to make up for it right? But personally I would still send a gift unless I could make the wedding shower and in that case I would just give the gift then.

For the reason that you can't force somebody to give a gift: B - no.
