Terrible Toasts!

Lynnie, on September 27, 2018 at 13:05 Posted in Wedding reception 0 8

Not everyone is a great public speaker - or is the best judge at which stories are "wedding appropriate"! That combined with the pressure of giving a funny, touching, and creative wedding toast can lead to some... not so great toasts. Smiley laugh

Do you have any terrible toast stories? Spill!

Best man gave a speech that was 90% about him. Very little mention of the groom and no mention of the bride.

No bad toasts when i have attended any weddings. If there are some people you worry about speaking, ask someone to have them hear that persons speech beforehand.

My friend was at a wedding where the father of the bride talked about she was the best daughter a father could ask for. She had two other sisters.

I don’t remember the specifics but I was a MOH and the best man made up his speech on the spot, using inside jokes no one else knew.

Another wedding the MOH talked about how her own husband had been deported and they fight all the time. She also called him a name.

I went to a wedding where one of the white male groomsmen talked about his interracial relationship to explain how it’s the responsibility of the newlyweds to procreate and enhance society with smart children...so awkward!

    I don't recall a bad toast, but...

I've seen people wanting to make a toast and basically get yelled at by the Bride/Groom or head table not to approach the podium, probably because they knew it'd be a disaster of a toast.

I've also seen people avoid the podium like the plague, after being told on the spot to make a toast.

Both situations are extremely awkward. I know a couple of people that would fit in the first category (in my family), so I'll be having a quick conversation with them about respecting our wishes to only have 'x' amount of speeches.

I honestly can't remember any bad speeches! I do remember tons of great ones (one at FH cousins wedding, and one at my cousins wedding). Maybe I'm just not looking for the bad ones lol.

I don't recall any terrible toasts... however I don't remember many memorable ones either. I hope no one does anything too embarrassing at our wedding... haha.

Well I did go to a wedding this past weekend but I wouldn't say that this toast was terrible - the best man took is shirt off within the first minute of being at the podium... lol

He didn't make it to the actual food part of the wedding before doing this! It wasn't even 7pm! That was about the most bizarre thing though. Haven't been to many weddings but would love to hear some crazy stories if anybody has some!
