Tent Rentals

Olivia, on October 4, 2019 at 12:46 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5
Help! We looked around and found the best place for us to rent a tent and placed a deposit for our date. Now my mom is telling me she has a friend with a wedding tent we can use... but I placed a non-refundable deposit. Do I cut my loses or try and find a couple to take over the rental. I’m looking at aug 1 2020, and it’s the cheapest place in NS! (20x40 tent)

It depends. you can look at your lost deposit as the cost to rent from your friend. u should check their tent out before you cancel your rental

    Hi Olivia!

Do you think you will have the chance to see your mom's friends tent erected? Does it come with all the added extras that the rental tent would? E.g. power outlets, a floor, will someone take responsibility for putting it up and taking it down, is insurance needed?

If you think that the other tent is the way that you want to go, then I would say cut your losses with the deposit as you are obviously still paying less than the full price of the tent (if you can find a couple to take over your booking, even better). Just make sure that you have thought about everything before you agree to taking your mom up on this offer.

Your deposit is already put in and secured. Another couple is interested in getting the tent (if posted and inquired) for the price and saving on looking, give them the info and let your vendor know your transferring the contract. Get the money in return for sure.

Your mom should have mentioned about the tent idea in the first place if she asked you about getting one before the deposit. Another thing to consider is seeing the pictures they have done and being sturdy to hold for the day. All the same as you did with this tent to inquire.

I would want to be very sure that it was sturdy and that I had people who knew how to set it up.
Personally, I would stick with the rental. I would be so stressed worrying about the borrowed tent it wouldn't be worth it for me. I would much rather pay a business who has a reputation at stake and will make sure it is set up correctly. Ultimately, you need to decide what you and your FH are comfortable with.

I mean, if the other tent is the same or better I would still look for a couple to take over your rental - but no matter what cut your losses. You may end up paying them for nothing but I'd rather that instead of paying even more for something you could have got for free.
