Surprise Wedding Anxiety

Jessica, on April 17, 2018 at 12:35 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 14
I'm planning a surprise wedding on July 7th and I'm having lots of anxiety over whether it's a good idea or not. My family all wants to help out but my FH and I are stubborn and don't want to accept any help from them, and this surprise wedding is much more inexpensive than if we did a normal wedding. Looking at having about 60 people and we're looking at a 8,000 wedding.. Has anyone ever done a surprise wedding? Am i just going crazy with anxiety?

I think it is a wonderful idea, but--- if there is anyone that you have to have to 100% attend i would let them in on it. A gf of mine decided against the surprise because she expected that some people important may not make it out for a backyard BBQ in the middle of summer. I know having a bday right around your wedding date that it is hard to get commitment to parties because of baseball, camping, waterslides with the kids... the list goes on.

Maybe tell everyone you are supplying the food for the BBQ/party etc and you want to be sure they are attending? That may discourage the late bailers.

I am having a surprise wedding tooooo! Ours is scheduled for September 29 this year. Smiley smile This is my second wedding, and my FH's first. We are pretty low key folks, and don't want a big wedding. So, while everybody is aware of our engagement, we have said our wedding is next year. I did take the opportunity to go wedding dress shopping with my mom and Sister, so they could feel part of the day (I didn't get a chance to do this last time I got married as the ex and I lived away).

There's so much anxiety to it. I totally understand your pain! I'm worried about how it will all work out on the day-of. We are kind of saying it is a family/friend get together/pre-wedding dinner. Casual, no fuss....

    I'm so excited for you!

This is so exciting!!! I’ve never met anyone whose done a surprise wedding so I don’t have any great advice but I can only imagine the anxiety that comes with it. I think in the end you’re going to be so happy you pulled it off and know that it was a great idea!

You could add a dress code to you invitation! That should help, if you're doing invitations that is.

A friend of mine did a surprise wedding and it turned out amazing! They played it off as an engagement party (so that everyone dressed up) and it shocked everyone.

Sounds like fun! I can't imagine planning a surprise but I'm sure you have it under control. I'm sure they'll be happier being surprised than being the planners in the end, even if they really want to help.

We are here for you!!! I found that even in my real, pubic, big wedding, I'm still not wanting to talk to a lot of my family too much, because of their opinions, or they think me just spit-balling ideas are what I'm choosing...
I find this community is a GREAT place to get your anxiety, frustration, ideas, questions, etc dealt with. Any questions you have, advice you need, opinions you want.... start a discussion and we will be here for you!

And you don't know us, so you can completely ignore the ideas you don't like without feeling bad Smiley laugh

It's for sure a lot to manage on your own and being a surprise keeping things secret! Talking things and ideas out with friends and family can for sure help manage the stress so you two doing it all on your own is huge!

I think it's a great idea! You seem to be really into doing it so thats for sure what you should do! Wedding stress happens to everyone but your day will be amazing!
