Sunnybrook Estates closing down

Annie, on August 20, 2020 at 16:36 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6
Hi everyone!

So I’ve just heard the news today from Sunnybrook Estates whom I’ve booked my wedding ceremony and reception with that they’re closing down their business permanently due to financial hardships they’ve faced during covid. My original date was Oct 2020, which was postponed to April 2021, and now hearing that the venue will be gone I’m debating whether to cancel the wedding altogether and just have an intimate ceremony with family only. I feel like trying to scramble now to find another vendor for our date in April 2021 that we actually like would be near impossible since we have very specific requirements (small guest size, close-by location, mansion like atmosphere). And we could still have a separate reception in April so that we can keep all our other vendors without having to cancel/ reschedule again. My last resort would be finding another venue with a later date in 2021 since that would mean having to reschedule everything all over again and waiting almost for another year to have the wedding. Are there any other brides who are facing the same issue who booked with Sunnybrook/ any other venues? Please let me know of any alternative ideas on what you would do in the situation.
Thank you! Smiley smile

Its hard enough to hear the venue is closing down because of the times lost in revenue hardship. Hotel around your area still having weddings for 50 people? It would work out so you can have your ceremony and reception in 2 locations of the hotel and your guests can change or go straight to reception after in one place. This would also give you time to spend with family while you all will be together.

Thank you so much for letting me know!

Yeah, I figured maybe that was the case since our event isnt until August 2021. I will follow up with them if I don't hear anything soon. Good to hear they're issuing back deposits though.

Hopefully we can both find something else Smiley smile

Yes they emailed me and called me to let me know! There’s only one person working right now so she might be reaching out in sequence, but if you don’t hear anything by the end of this month maybe try reaching out to them. FYI they’re issuing back any deposits that you’ve paid

Whoa. What?? I'm having my reception at Sunnybrook next year after having to get married at another location due to covid. Did they reach out to you via email about this?

If you need alternatives around the area, try Graydon Hall Manor. Other locations in Toronto you can try are Fantasy Farms and VandenBerg House. All are house-like venues and capable of small guest lists.

I'm so sorry this happened to you!

Not the same venue, but when we asked if we could postpone our November 2020 wedding to 2021 we were told it was being demolished as of December 2020. We were given a few options, including going ahead with our original date with restrictions, but none of the options appealed to us and we'll be losing our deposit.

We still want to have a big reception at a later date once there aren't so many restrictions, but I'm really hesitant to sink any more money into a different venue if we're not sure when we will be able to have it. We had already decided to get married in a small ceremony this year, so we're still going ahead with that, but I don't think we'll be booking anything for the reception until the pandemic is over or things are at least much more stable and there's light at the end of the tunnel.
