Summer Brides/grooms - why did you pick summer?

Lisa, on October 16, 2019 at 09:59 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 25

Or for those of you that didn't - why not summer?

When my husband and I started to plan out big day, we knew we wanted to get married in the mountains and that this would require travel for us and our guests. We also wanted to minimize the chance that it would rain (ha ha, joke was on us!) and give our guests a chance to make a bit more of a trip out of it if they chose to, so we picked the last long weekend of summer.

For those of you that also picked a summer date - was it because the date itself was important? Do you LOVE hot summer days? Or maybe you knew for that it absolutely shouldn't be in the summer?

I want to hear all about it! Smiley smile

We picked june 21st as its the longest day of the year for our wedding. As we started dating on dec 21st it seemed fitting and the date wouldnt change just the month. Also we wanted to get married in the pasture I played in as a child. Doing so in dec in saskatchewan was a big no!

We’re getting married labour day weekend (September 5th). Because September 5th is our anniversary so we can keep the same day. Also since we’ve been together it’s always been a beautiful day so hopefully the trend will continue Smiley smile

We picked the early fall as the weather in Saint John in the summer can be unpredictable and very foggy. I'd rather be chilly than damp!

We knew we wanted it to be in the summer because we can't stand the cold! FH's mother even suggested a potential winter wedding since "no one gets married in the winter", and it was received with a hard "HELL NO" from us.

That sounds like a great reason to have it in summer for sure!

Summer was actually the last season on my radar, and yet here we are! Having a wedding in the height of summer at the end of July lol. Originally it was because autumn is my favourite season and I had so many ideas for an autumn wedding, but then a lot of people would be back at school. So then we thought about winter because venues would already be decorated for Christmas and be all pretty and FH loves snow. But then what if a blizzard happened? Then spring was thought about briefly, can't remember the reasoning behind not doing it during that season. Then we thought, summer is great specifically for a back yard wedding which is what we wanted so we could keep it small, and it's the most likely time to not get rained on *fingers crossed* and our dating anniversary is in the summer and just so happened to land on a Saturday next year. So it just seemed it was meant to be.

I love summer. It’s my favourite season and it’s also my FH’a favourite season. It’s also the best time for my family to travel to our wedding.

I hate winters and my family being from the Caribbean would not be able to tolerate Canadian winters for sure. Spring would never work because my allergies are terrible.
So bring on the sun, I am so ready for it.

We definitely did not want summer. So can't stand the heat and humidity! So we are going end of October.

We picked a date at the very end of the Summer to avoid the scorching hot/humid weather in Ottawa. We went to a wedding, a few years back, where the outdoor ceremony did not have any coverage from the sun for guests. It was BRUTAL.
It's tough, in September, because the weather is definitely a toss up. We lucked out for sure, as it was raining all morning, but got sunny and warm in time for the ceremony and reception.

We originally thought of getting married in September but we have a lot of family members who are either in school or work in a school district so we decided to change it to August. I’m worried that it might be too hot here, but this past August my friends got married on August long weekend and it was cold that day haha.

I picked a summer day because of the date! I always wanted to be married in the month of August, and so we decided the first weekend would be great! it ended up falling on a long weekend too which was perfect for most guests. I didn't realize it would still be so hot, however there was a nice breeze so it wasn't bad

Also FH and I are in service industries get time off in summer is hard enough without trying for a specific day. Mist of our friends are in same boat. Way easier on our guest list for off season

I couldn't even imagine wearing a wedding dress in the hot summer. Never mind the suits guys wear. There was no way the groom was wearing shorts or t-shirt at our wedding lol. I am not a fan of winter but a winter wedding just seems to magical. Something to look forward to in the dreariness of winter.

We picked it because it’s when a lot of our guests (and 3/4 parents) are off. It’s also warm and I’d never want to be outside taking pictures in any other season.

    I’m a summer baby!

Summer is far too hot for us on a regular day, let alone if we have to wear a suit or heavy dress! And we just love fall so we knew from the start we'd want an autumn wedding.

Why not? Because too hot! lol

My DH veto'd winter as it can get to like -40°C (feels like -50°C) and I veto'd summer as it can get to like 30°C + humidity!

Ours is towards the end of summer, but the reason was mainly to help with guest travel. Most of the guest will either be driving to NS from another province and I would not wish driving through the Cobequid Pass in the winter on anybody. The people flying are coming from NFLD and Northern Ontario mostly, so summer is the best time to avoid bad flying conditions leading to cancelled flights (seriously, my FFIL living in NFLD got snow on his lawn on May 30th).

I won't lie I get the bonus of it being warm outside, which I love, and my FH gets the bonus of air conditioned reception indoors, which he loves....lol. Smiley xd

We didn't want summer just because my Husband hates being in a suit, and hot lol. So it was either spring or fall, and fall we had less of a chance of rain. It was still chilly (about 12 degrees) on our wedding day, but way better than sweating!

Plus as we were planning, because we had a Friday wedding, many places gave us a discount, and it was border off season for some vendors which made things cheaper!
