Stuck between getting a decorator or doing it myself

Morgan, on November 1, 2017 at 13:50 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6

Ladies can i get some input, from bot. For the ladies who have gotten a decorator was it worth it? Ladies who have thought about decorators and ended up doing it yourself. I thought it would be cheaper to do it all myself but the more i look at prices of tgibgs and the amount of then ill need its not looking like it will be cheaper... which did you choose and why do you feel it was better. Another thing is the day of my wedding i don't want to have me and my wedding party decorating the hall, even if we went the night before i would rather be resting for my big day... thoughts and experiences please. I should mention the cost for the decorator i would like is roughly $8,000..

Thanks ladies, I'v actually found a cheaper decorator 😀 less then 2000.. im so happy i looked arpund more before booking the other company... the great thing about this one is we will work together so ill be doing some myself but the bigger jobs like backdrops and lighting will be her doing.. thank you for all the input.. as pretty as the other decorators work was there are so many other things that, that amount of money can go to..

We are doing the majority by ourselves, and the hall we rented have the lighting. The only thing we invested in was the backdrop. $8,000 seems a bit much, just invest in good DJ and and save the rest for the honeymoon Smiley winking

We did some stuff ourselves and some stuff was already there. It didn't take long to set things up and our friends and family were very helpful. $8,000 dollars for a decorator seems extremely expensive. People have entire weddings for less than that.

We did it ourselves but we were lucky as our venue provides basic/neutral decor like oil lanterns as centerpieces, fairy lights, lanterns, fall decor (like fake leaves and stuff) so we didn't have to do too much. It took me, my MOHs and my parents about 45 minutes to set up and 10 minutes to tear down. For decor we just put fairy lights and tulle on the arbor, fairy lights inside, some signage, table numbers and centerpieces and flowers.

I think had we gone with the original venue we had looked at which provided no decorating I would have still done it myself as like yourself decorators can be super pricey. But I mean, if you end up comparing the prices of the things and you want to do and cost of supplies and it's comparable to the cost of a decorator than i would definitely go with the decorator!

But as much as tearing down at the end of the night might not be ideal, people will be glad to help you and tearing down takes less time than setting up from what I experienced at my wedding and also my friend's wedding.

We are doing everything ourselves. But I'm going to have a team of about 14 people helping set up the night before (we get the hall at 5). And I'm not doing a whole lot for decorating. I'll have to set up the tables and chairs, put the linens on the tables, put together the centrepieces, set up the backdrop for our sweetheart table (that my dad is building), and maybe hang some additional lights from the rafters.... but that's it. I don't know how extravagant your decorations plans are, but if you could save 8k, I would do it. You could also look into a wedding coordinator. I'm pretty sure they help with the decorating and they're quite a bit less expensive. Just food for thought. I've been possibly looking at hiring a tear-down service, but that's because we have to be out by 2am the day after, which is a little tight.
