Stress overload! Warning long post! Sorry in advance...

Kaite, on August 20, 2018 at 10:57 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8
Hey ladies I wana know how you did it?! My wedding is pretty much exactly a year from now and I feel like Im already behind and drowning. Ive just accepted a job offer for my second job and now Im worried I won't have any time at all to plan this wedding. Ive been so worried about being able to afford this wedding and my happily ever after that I now I don't know where to go forward with planning. I reeeeeaaaalllly don't want to hire a wedding planner as I just can't justify the cost and I know my mom and bridesmaids are super excited to help out they just need some direction. So far all I have booked is the officiant, cerimony and reception venue and the photographers, and the wine has been made and is now aging for the big day. Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you’ve gotten a lot of stuff done early! I know wedding wire has a checklist I wish I had discovered earlier. We also hired a planner and some offer different packages such as day-of coordination or assistance with some elements. If your venue has a host, you should be okay for the day of stuff and a lot of vendors do give advice on timelines because they want the day to go smoothly while also recommending other vendors. The vast majority of people we chose came highly recommended by other vendors. Since FH and I are temporarily long distance, I would get in touch with vendors and see how flexible they are with appointments since you’ll be working two jobs with limited availabilities and may need to schedule things in advance. Also, some vendors are pretty good at emailing and you can take care of entire elements through email rather than phone calls or having to go in person.

Book the more important vendors first:

    Venue
    Videographer
    Photographer
    DJ

Then invitations, Vistaprint is great and mail out fast to you. This site allows to align pictures, desings and wording where you want it and how you like it. Some invites are also available in other colours.

Rentals for centerpieces/money box and backdrop can be prepaid at the time. Paid full when picking up and just return after. Its all done. This helps knowing ypu have nothing to store or keep for reaelling.

Small items needed and have no time to get on stores, pay less online. When recieved and not happy with the product, the seller does refund your money and hf the time tell you to keep the item.

Sounds like you're in really good shape for a year out. Florist and DJ are probably your next big things to book. Does your reception venue include catering and bar? if not, those are next for sure.

Once you have all your major vendors booked, there's really not a ton to do! Attire and decor are the fun things and not worth stress! Do you have an overall vision in mind (colours, vibe)?

Honestly, don't sweat the small stuff like decor. Nobody will remember what your seating chart looked like.

I agree with Tori that you’re right on target and should follow the timeline set out by WW! It’s easy to get overwhelmed by wedding planning, but just remember that at the end of it all you’re going be married to your person ☺️

YOU ARE DOING GREAT! lol you are right on time IMO. Just keep an eye on the list that WeddingWire provides and increase the timeline a little and you should be fine. My wedding is in Oct. 2019 and I have: Venues, Officiant, Food, and Photographer, and social venue. Next thing on my list is a videographer (if I can afford one!), a dress, and the DJ.

The one thing that I have learnt so far is that my stress is so unnecessary! No use in fretting about it until at least the 6 month mark!

Sounds like you're doing pretty well in terms of timelines. If I were you my next steps would be to start looking at dresses for yourself and thinking about food options and catering. But don't stress yet girl! You sound like you're doing great.

It sounds as if you have a lot booked already, especially knowing that you still have close to a year to go! I understand the stress of the planning and wanting everything to be perfect - maybe reach out to your family and friends that want to help, and get together to have a planning session? Then you can ask for help with some things, and get a timeline for other things you still need to work out?

That, and you can ALWAYS reach out to the lovely folks on here - we're all happy to help!

Also my fiance lives just over 2 hours away so as much as he wants to help there's only so much he can do from his end as we are getting married where I live.
