std and invites

Kirsten, on March 19, 2019 at 03:16 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8
Is sending the save the dates a year in advance then the actual invites out 3-6 months before too early or is that ok?

Our wedding is 3 days after Thanksgiving (just found out the other day) and want to make sure that people know well before so that they can plan based on how they want.

STD can be sent 1 year - 9 months prior and the invitation 4-3 months time. I know my cousin is getting married this year in September and will be sending out the invitations by July for Mid August RSVP date.

Our wedding is on October 5th of this year and I sent out the Save The Dates in January (9 months before the wedding). My wedding planner advised to send out the invitations around 4 months before the wedding - I know with a holiday around your wedding that things get hectic so I would send the Save the dates early and then at least the guests can plan around that date.

I would've sent save the dates out if we did an engagement shoot early enough to have pictures. We ended up sending them at 9 months before and our invites will be at 3 months before.

We’re sending our save the dates a year in advance because it’s a summer wedding and hopefully people will holidays plan around the date.

invites we will send 4 months out!

I would send everything as early as you can when your wedding falls during a busy time of the year. I always appreciate getting early save the dates and invites, so I can plan our vacations and time off and that kind of thing. But I'm a type A planner, so that's really important to me Smiley xd

Since your wedding is on a day that’s not usually typical for weddings, I think you’re doing the right thing. This way all of your guests have a heads up on booking the day off work. However, since you’re planning to send your save the dates a year in advance, you could send your invitations closer to the 4-month mark instead (since everyone will already know when your wedding is).

That's exactly my timeline too - we went with it since our venue wants their hotel rooms booked 2 months in advance.

I think that's fine - back when I was going to be sending STD's I was going to send them out at the 1 year mark and invites at the 6 & 4 month marks.
