Stag and Doe, Yes Or No?

Brittany, on April 12, 2019 at 03:52 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 11
Hi there,

So last month we had our Stag and Doe. Originally we saw it as a money grab and a negative event but we warmed up to the idea of having it as a means to celebrate friends and family. We didn't have a bridal shower or engagement party so this was basically that.

We didn't anticipate how stressful it would be whilst planning our wedding. Luckily we we're ahead of the curve. In the end we had a Casino Theme sold nearly 100 tickets and made a hefty sum to launch our wedding fund forward. Overall it was fun.

However I'm still a bit traumatized from the pie in the face and the bridesmaids ditching their duties to party. Piece of advice if you decide to do a pie in the face use mini cupcakes not whipped cream. Despite wearing goggles some guests got overzealous and got us in the hair which melted into our eyes. Ouch.

How was your experience?? Are you planning a Shared Party with your spouse??

That's wonderful I hope it all goes well for you guys. I made a schedule too, to help the wedding party know which games and events they were running. Definitely helped.

If everyone finds it a hassle just have a smaller event if you want to have a party. An engagement party is simpler just have some finger foods, make it a potluck and anyone is welcome to celebrate. You can do group games and have a small social.

It's wonderful if your bridal party can help out. Stag and Doe's are supposed to be their job. You can give them game ideas, or a local venue you'd like to have it hosted at. Give them access to communicate with the rest of the bridal party so the burden doesn't land on a few. Pinterest is a great place for inspiration.

Our Bridal Party is planning our Jack n jill. With everyone saying it's so much work, I'm feeling worried that it's too much. They say we are not to do anything, but there must be something I can. Any suggestions to help relieve them of so much stress?

We are planning a Jack & Jill/ Stag & Doe for September 14. It's still a little ways away, but the venues in the area we wanted were already booking up fast for the Fall so we had to choose a date early. It saves to plan early though because we have time to buy prizes over time and wait for really good sales. We'll be having a sports themed party since my fiance is a sports nut and that's an easy theme to incorporate games into. We'll do some type of football themed corn hole, hole in one golf, shooting pucks at a target in the net and some standard games like find the joker.

It is definitely a lot of work to plan. My FSIL had her Stag & Doe last month and afterwards after seeing all the work she had done and stress she was under my in laws asked us "Are you sure you seriously want to do this and it's worth it?" For us we are really excited to get everyone together in a more casual laid back setting then our shower or wedding may have. Plus, since we are early birds we have time on our side.

We had a stag and doe and it was so much fun! Lots of friends and family donated prizes for us to raffle off and we had everyone hosting the small games for us while we got ready for the larger ones. We did have a table for people to put money in either the groom or the bride jar and whoever had more money got a pie in the face, however my FH rugged it and put more money in his so that he got it in the face instead of me lol

Me and my Fiancé had a wedding social March 29th! I completely agree - SO MUCH WORK!! Way more work than a wedding IMO.

Here's the link to my discussion to see what my social was like: Wedding Social Complete!

Shower cap would've been a great idea. Sadly someone slammed us in the face at the same time so it went in out noses the sugar hardened so it made some nasty hardened boogies beware! Haha. Yeah the smell is awful. You'll be a walking sour bride

We are having an upcoming stag and doe in on May 25th. We have some different idea's of games and very end of night its the pie in the face. I know its gonna be me getting it and I plan to wear a garbage bag to not get it on my clothes lol and it would be the MOH who would give the pie in the face. I know seems crazy, but i wanted a shower cap. Everyone that I have been to people have shared the experience and said they hate the smell and feeling of the whipped cream after.

So far its been me doing all the work and only few people in wedding party I feel like will help out the day of. My MOH 1 will be working with a BM as one BM is very experienced with hosting buck and doe's or planning. No one in my wedding party has planned one. We are creating a schedule and this is where you have to be at this time and this is when you get breaks to make sure its equal and fair.
