Stag and Doe

Missy, on October 25, 2019 at 17:04 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5

Hi All - my FH and I are looking at hosting a stag and doe, but we seem to be getting a lot of forbidden games which makes us slightly worried that we wouldn't profit enough on the event, and would actually end up spending more money (which ideally, we want to avoid!).

Lots of vendors/hall renters are informing us that you can no longer do door prizes, 50/50 etc. as these are all "chance" games. Which happened to be where majority of our friends made their money. How do you go about doing these things? I see lots of people still offering door prizes, with the purchase of a ticket? Any insight is greatly appreciated. Smiley smile

Can you do something at someones house instead? or rent a condo party room where there wont be any security?

I live in Manitoba so we are allowed to have these raffles at our Socials as long as we have the proper permits - but what about doing a silent auction instead of a raffle?

Like instead of selling tickets to put in for a chance to win a "basket" you have papers and pens with people bidding on it? Would that be legal?

Is the venue allowing you to have these games/raffles done when the license if received? I don't see anything wrong with this as long its valid and legal.

Some venues don't even ask and will let you go ahead with the event and games/raffles and drink tickets.

I did a bit of digging and am revising my answer. Based on what I found, because you don't meet any of the requirements for obtaining a lottery license, it appears it just isn't legal, period.

By law you need a license to have those games. Perhaps ask the venue if it is permitted if you acquire the proper license.
