Stag & doe

Jen, on February 20, 2017 at 13:18 Posted in Before the wedding 0 15

Hey Ladies,

Did you have a stag & doe or will you be having one? I'm from a smaller city where we have a different kind of party called a "shag" (don't ask how the name came about because I have no idea!). It's pretty much like going to the bar where you pay a cover charge (the tickets are only $2-$5), drinks are CHEAP, there are raffles and there is usually pizza served later in the evening. It's pretty much like a stag & doe but we don't have a sit down meal.

My fiance and I are having a stag & doe back in his hometown which is being put on by his family. My question is where did you get your tickets from for them and how far in advance did you start selling them?

Thanks for your help!

We ended up using vistaprint as well and saved so much money! I was looking at a seller on Etsy who makes these super cute tickets, but I couldn't justify spending $80+ for 250 tickets when I got 500 (I won't need this many) for $30 with shipping and taxes included. This is what we came up with!

I cannot believe the difference in parties between the city I live in and the city we are holding it in! Here in Thunder Bay our tickets cost $2 to $3 dollars in advance at $5 at the door. Usually theres just pizza at the end of the night, you make money off of the drinks sold, there are raffles, prizes, etc. as well, but definitely not a buffet dinner. Thankfully we aren't putting it on because if we were I'd be stressed to the max lol

His parents are throwing the party for us in Sault Ste Marie so it'll be a Stag & Doe. No shag for us lol I don't believe there is a theme. We haven't really been brought in to help plan any of it as his parents, sister and best man are pretty much doing it all, or as supposed to be lol its stressing me out that I haven't had any part in planning..I'm one of those "plan everything well in advance girl and barely ask for help with anything".

Did you have the person who made your tickets print them for you too or did you get them printed else where? How much did it cost you? I've been looking on etsy as well and love some of them!

Hey Jennifer! I'm glad you got top share ideas with Chelsea. In Manitoba, they also have a similar event called Wedding social. You can also take a look at Simone's ideas for her social: Wedding socials - tickets

    Wedding social prizes part one!

    Wedding social part 2

I can't wait to see your ideas too! Are you thinking of having a theme for your "shag"? Smiley tongue

I made a secret group on my fb with all the members of the wedding party in November. If someone rents a game or makes one, they can put it in their so we know what games we have. We also are doing a buffet for food so we have a poll on there for everyone to sign up with different food items that they are bringing so it is all different as well. They can also put in the raffles baskets they are making and I can tell them about prizes we have gotten... December 20th is when I made my event for the jack and jill so people have a few months of notice and can hopefully get it off work. If not they can still buy a ticket

This is very helpful! Thanks Chelsea. How far in advance did you make the Facebook page? My stag & doe is in Sault Ste Marie, which is 7 hours away from where I live.

Hey Jennifer! I am having a jack and jill, so really the exact same thing. Mine will be in May and we have an event on fb for people to say if they are coming or not and we have already started selling tickets. People can also buy tickets at the door if they wish. We got our tickets from vistaprint and just used business cards. On the back of the cards, I wrote 001, 002, 003 etc. I wrote them twice on the back of the ticket. This way when the guests enter, we will rip the ticket in half, put one number in the raffle drum and the person can keep the other half with the number on it, this way if we draw their name as a door prize winner, they can come claim their prize with proof of their number. Here is a photo of what our jack and jill ticket looks like.
