Speeches during dinner or after

Krystal, on March 9, 2018 at 10:51 Posted in Wedding reception 0 19
We are having a buffet dinner with approximately 160 guests and are trying to figure out if it's best to do speeches during or after dinner.

I would say do it during. Start them once every table is sitting down eating. Speeches can run long and no one wants to be stuck sitting there. I think you will lose their attention.

I say after dinner so you have everyone's attention.

You can always do it during dinner. It’s just challenging to get their attention, and if you do it after... your guest may have been drinking and even more challenging to get their attention.

Traditionally speeches have been done during dinner but close to end of it. I plan on all my speeches this way.

Timing for the speeches worked out perfect before dinner so it didn't take the time away to enjoy the meala and dancing after. Timing worked out as planned.

We plan to do ours during dinner. But not at the beginning or right in the middle, more towards the end so then people can finish their food and digest before the party begins and that we don't take away from party time.

We are also doing ours during dinner! I want to get those out of the way and get people on the dance floor sooner rather than later!!!

I’m actually doing mine before. It was a really good piece of advice given to my mum by her wedding planner years ago. If you have people who are nervous public speakers and they have to wait till after dinner, they don’t really enjoy their dinner. As both my dad and FH are nervous public speakers I wanted to get the speeches done first so they can enjoy their meals knowing the speeches are over.

We are having a buffet also and we plan on doing some between main course and dessert and some after dessert.

We had a buffet dinner and found it easier to have the speeches after dinner. After dinner you don't need to worry that people are rushing their dinner, or haven't had a chance to eat yet or that people are going to be getting up and down while they speak. After dinner there will also be less noise as people tend to chat while they eat.

I would do them during dinner, right after the last group of people has been to the buffet so everyone is sitting down!

Most people do then during. If you want until after then your guests might be getting tired of sitting for so long.

We're doing our speeches throughout dinner to keep them separate and guests interested.

So everyone will sit, my dad does a speech and then first course, Groomsmen do a speech, then second course, Bridesmaids do a speech, then third course, Grooms mum does speech, dessert, and then we do a thank you speech and kick off the dancing! Well the Father/Daughter dance then dancing lol.

We are having speeches throughout dinner, we are having a speech after each course has been served but we are having a plated dinner.
with a buffet dinner it would probably be easier to have the speeches afterwards so that everyone is seated during them instead of some getting food and some sitting down
