Sneaking out for 'golden hour' photos

Tracy, on December 13, 2021 at 17:48 Posted in Wedding reception 0 10

I'm starting to work on my timeline for my wedding and I would love to have us sneak out of the reception for half an hour to do some photos right before sunset for golden hour photos. Sunset on our date is at 9:04pm so we should be at least an hour into dancing by the 8:30 time that I would like to have us sneak off. However, we are also having a small wedding of 30 people so I think it will be quite obvious we are missing lol. I can give heads-up to key people and we are known introverts so I hope no one would be insulted.

We will have our puppy in the hotel room so we can also use that we want to check on her and let her out for a little walk. (she isn't allowed in the banquet room - she will be crated and is use to that as whenever we travel we bring her and her crate for stays in hotels, she does fine in her crate at home for max 6hours but still would like out as much as possible.)

Anyways, thoughts about sneaking out of the reception?

Good tip, I’m not sure we will be allowed to dance but definitely will ensure DJ knows so our favourite songs aren’t played.

We did this, nobody really even noticed we were gone and if they did, they just assumed we were taking photos or taking a washroom break.

ONE TIP: As we were taking golden hour photos I could hear the DJ playing one of my favourite songs. This is one of the songs that I had looked forward to dancing to with my friends the entire time I planned the wedding. I was SO SO disappointed and couldn't even focus on the photos. With that being said - if music is already playing while you go, and there is a song that's super important to you - just give your DJ a heads up before you sneak out.

Awesome! I am thinking about 30 mins in the timeline so we can get our pup and give her a walk and be in the photos!

Do it. Your guests will be fine. If anyone asks, don't even lie, just straight up tell them you went for golden hour photos. They'll understand.

Hey Tracy. I love sunset, so we are planning on doing this on our wedding day also! I have been told many times that it is important on your wedding day to have sometime with you SO to take it all in. I must say I am super jealous of the fact that you can have your pupper with you!!

I think it's a great idea to sneak away for sunset photos!! It's your wedding, do what you wish! You will have these photos for life. My fiance and I are going to be doing the same thing, sneaking away for a bit to get some beautiful sunset photos ❤

This is so common and actually so important to take time to yourselves to really process the significance of the day. It's YOUR day - you don't need excuses. Your guests will be fine! You can't be with every one the whole time anyway, regardless how small These pictures will take maybe 15 minutes (our night photos took maybe 10 and so worth it) - I would not worry about it and 1000% you should do it. Golden hour photos are stunning. You'll regret not doing it.
