Small Ceremony with Reception on One Year Anniversary

Logan, on May 12, 2020 at 21:24 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 4
Hey guys!

Looking for some advice! My fiance and I planned our dream wedding for May 30,2020 but my venue cancelled due to Covid 19. We then rescheduled until October 9,2020 but with cities cancelling events in October I think it may be best to cancel.
We are thinking about getting legally married before our marriage lisence expires this June then have a symbolic ceremony and reception on our one year wedding anniversary. Any thoughts? Thanks😊

Keep your original date and have your ceremony as the Anniversary celebration can be done next year as planned. Its not worth paying for another marriage license for the cost of what you paid once. This is happening with a lot of couples this year as they decided the same way to go about or have a vow renewal over anniversary. Keep the venue than losing the deposit paid.

We're keeping our original wedding date to be July 25 of this year. Doug Ford is announcing some "good news" about reopening on Thursday so I'm hoping he'll bump up the limit of gatherings. At this point if I can even have our immediate family there, I'll be happy! We definitely want to have a celebration with everyone later on when things clear up. I don't want to make definitive plans until we can see if this virus returns next year for a second wave or not. But a 1 year anniversary party would be very cool!

    That's our plan as well!

We're keeping our October 2, 2020 wedding date to be legally married (potentially with a very small group of family can travel, but likely privately) and then on October 1, 2021 we will have an anniversary reception with a countdown at midnight to our anniversary. The friends and family we've mentioned this too have all been really positive about it which reassured us we were doing the right thing.
It's hard to guess what October will look like. I didn't imagine May would look like this when I was sent to work from home in March. Some provinces are slowly reopening, but that doesn't mean we won't move backwards as new outbreaks emerge. For me the idea of having a wedding where I had to chop the guest list down and still not be able to hug people or dance within 6 feet of my friends didn't sound like a party, so rescheduling the reception was an easy decision. Our premier mentioned that our border NB to PEI (who also has few cases) will remain closed until at least July which to me means it's super unlikely that my fiance's family will be able to enter Canada this year.
