Skip or Keep?? Something old, new, borrowed, and blue

Malyssa, on September 20, 2022 at 11:35 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8

Happy Planning Brides.

Are you following the tradition of something old, new, borrowed, and blue?

This tradition goes back to the 19th century. The exact meaning behind each trinket isn't totally clear, but there are some popular theories. "Something old" represented a tie to the past. "Something new" stood for hope and optimism for the future. "Something borrowed" from a happily married friend or relative was believed to bring good luck for the union and even fertility. The color blue was meant to ward off the evil eye, and it also stood for love, purity, and fidelity.

For a long time during planning, I thought I would incorporate this into our wedding, but as our day creeps closer, I do think this is something we will not be doing. Who knows, maybe I'll be surprised on the day of with gifts from my family of items I can use haha

    new is my dress

borrowed is a pair of earrings my FH gave my mum

something old is the lace used on my veil which is from my mums veil she wore 50 years ago

    Something new is my dress
Something Blue will be a piece of my friend's soccer jersey (he was supposed to stand up for us, but sadly lost his battle to cancer) - just don't know where it will be incorporated

Haven't put much thought into he borrowed or old yet, but am sure I will think of it

My something new is my dress

My something borrowed is pearls from my STBMIL that she is lending me.

My Something blue is a ring my mother had given to me when she passed and I am also using it as my something old since she's had it for over 42 years.

And I'll have to order a six pence for my shoe.
