Shuttle for Multiple Hotels?

Kelly, on March 4, 2020 at 08:53 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 18

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this. My fiance and I are getting married in Elora, ON in October. Almost all our guests are coming from out of town. My goal is to provide an effortless guest experience, and so I'm looking into shuttle services to get them from their hotels to the venue so no one will have to worry about drinking/transportation. We have blocks at three hotels: two in Fergus (10 min drive away) and one in Guelph (20 min drive away). We have a total of 27 rooms in Fergus and 10 rooms in Guelph.

My question is, how will the shuttle service work? Will one bus serve multiple hotels? I assume I would need another one to do the Guelph run? Is it worth it? Or will one bus do it all?

I have no idea how any of this works haha

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi! We significantly downsized our wedding so we did not end up using the service. We had a contract with them previous to this decision though: 3 hours of continuous service as needed after the wedding to the best western in fergus, the breadalbane in fergus, the hampton inn in guelph, and basically anywhere else in elora/fergus people were staying. The delta is on the complete other side of guelph which may be why they are saying that.

    Good luck with everything!

Hey! Do you mind sharing if you ended up going with Red car service for your wedding at Elora Mill? Smiley smile I’m currently planning a wedding for fall 2022 and red car told me that Delta hotel in Guelph was basically too far

Inquiring with buses or better transportation can range from size and seating for how many your having at each hotel. You can arrange timings to be early for each one to be picked up as everyone will be in one spot ready to go and picked up at times set ahead for your wedding to start. This way it helps to get the price down if needed for 1 only. You are considering each hotel for the same time, then 3 buses will be required based on the budget going overboard.

No problem! Honestly, I think most people will be grateful. If it's too long for someone, they can always call themselves a cab Smiley smile

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I think this is going to be the consensus. Yes it'll be a little long, but I don't think anyone will complain too much about having a free ride back Smiley tongue

It did seem a little long, but that's because it was a very dark drive and I was fairly drunk. But I was super happy to just get on a shuttle and not have to call a cab.

Good to know, thank you so much for sharing your experience! I've been in contact with Red Car and I think we'll go with them.

    Cheers Smiley smile

We had about 85 guests- a good proportion of them used the shuttle and everyone was grateful for it. I didn’t hear one complaint.

The shuttle did several trips in the evening and the driver was quite relaxed- if people were only going to Guelph, then he just went to Guelph. Same with Fergus. He even dropped off a couple guests at their house. Taxis are essentially non-existent in Elora and are expensive to get to Guelph. The shuttle was well worth it.

Thanks! Something to consider for sure. Do you find one loop made the ride long??

Thanks!! I was hoping to get someone reply who had experience with this particular venue. My hang up about only having one shuttle make a loop was that it would potentially make a long ride for the people in Guelph if it stopped in Fergus first (35 mins instead of 20 direct). I think 35 min on a bus late at night after drinking would feel pretty long for me haha! I really don't know if that's a big deal or not...

We have around 80 guests. 27 rooms are blocked in Fergus between two hotels, and we've got 10 rooms blocked in Guelph. Do you think a shuttle is worth it? Do you know anything about the taxi service in the area? I just don't want it to be hard for people at the end of the night or anyone to have to DD if they don't want to,

We got married at Elora mill in 2018- one block at the delta and one block at the hotel in Fergus. The shuttle service we hired through Elora mill (which was red car at the time) did a loop to both hotels

Have you inquired with your hotels if they offer shuttles? I don't know how common it is, but the hotel close to our venue offers a shuttle so we don't even need to worry about booking an independent company.

I mean you can rent a bus to drive back and forth between all the places. like it stops at the closest one then the further one then the farthest one but you need to let guests know so they dont miss the bus. but i feel like people always leave at different times and may not want to sit on the bus especially if they are at the furthest hotel

We have 2 hotel blocks, one in Niagara Falls and one in Niagara on the Lake. We are going to have 2 school buses 15-20 mins apart from one another. They will start in Niagara Falls, then go to Niagara on the Lake then to our venue. The bus ride will be about 45 mins for the people getting on in Niagara Falls due to the wait time(10-15 mins) and travel time the shuttle service suggested.

Depending on the locations and if they are on the same route you can have the bus do two stops so many minutes apart. If they're in opposite directions you might need 2 shuttles or to space the stops out more.
If you build a rough schedule you can put it on your wedding website and even have someone drop a few copies off at the reception desk of each hotel so that guests have access to it. I would account for the shuttles not being completely full each time, or if they're making 2 stops say x number at stop 1 and x number at stop 2 so that people waiting at the second stop still have room to get on.

My friend had her wedding at the Elora Mill. They booked a single shuttle to both Fergus and Guelph. It sort of completed a large loop, and they ran it every hour. It was a school bus. The only issue they ran into was the school bus couldn't fit on the narrow streets at the Mill, it had to stay on the south side of the Grand River. So they ended up getting another mini bus to shuttle people from the Mill to the school bus on the south side of the river....it made it a little more complicated.

When we were possibly going to have two hotels we were just going to have one bus make two stops - but I'm not sure where Guelph is in relation to Fergus so... If either one is on the way then I would stick to the one shuttle, but if not then I would think to get two busses. If it helps, when we got a big amount people say they were interested in getting a ride on the shuttle we looked into if we needed two busses just for the amount of people itself and the bus line we went with was going to give us a deal so maybe it wouldn't be that bad to get two shuttles in general?
