Should you tip hair and makeup?

Caissie, on August 26, 2020 at 19:19 Posted in Beauty 0 8
My wedding is coming up soon, September 18, 2020 and just wondering if you have to tip the hair and makeup girls.
The cost is $100 for hair and $100 for makeup plus the travel fee and a fee to instal my extensions. I also had to pay the same price to have a trial done.

I booked one of my family friends to do my hair at her salon and i will also be getting my makeup done there, I do plan on tipping both her and the makeup artist, and will also leave a review! totally up to you though!

For our trial it was $150 each and we added a small tip per person ($20 each), but I have heard that the best tip you can give is a detailed review online recommending the vendor if you enjoyed the service, and sharing their page on social media!

I think it depends. I have a contract with a salon and it includes the tip with their price.

Like Hank said, general rule is if the stylist works for themselves, they set the prices and don’t require a tip, whereas someone hired under a salon or another stylist should be tipped.
That being said, you could tip her anyway to cover your bases. It is a good idea especially since they’re spending product not just time.

Absolutely! She is providing you with a service. Her prices cover the cost of kit ( product used ) , her time , and talent. It's definitely more of a luxury then a necessity so I always say to tip if you can. To show appreciation and that you enjoyed the service. 100 for hair and 100 for make up isn't bad at all. It's about average ( lower side of average for where I live ).

If you are unhappy with the service , don't tip. If you are then definitely!

I usually tip my hair stylist or waxing guru, so I would tip. I plan on tipping unless I'm unhappy with how everything turns out (which I sincerely doubt will happen!).
A less common option would be to send a thank you card with a gift card or cash inside shortly after your wedding, but if you're not a regular they may not remember who sent it.

Did you book this makeup artist through a studio or salon where she works? If so, you should tip her.

If she's an independent who set her own prices, then tipping won't be necessary.

My makeup artist I will be tipping her just because! But it's totally your choice. I'm paying 225 for makeup and trail. My hair stylist is my aunt I won't be tipping her but I'll be getting her something special since she is family
