Should we postpone again?

Andrea, on February 18, 2021 at 16:26 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5
Sorry for the long explanation. Our original wedding plan was to get married August 2, 2020 but because of restrictions we decided to have a small ceremony with only family and postpone the celebration until July 1, 2021. Now it’s looking like the restrictions may not even allow for our wedding this year. So we’re thinking of postponing again 😭, only issue is that I’m back in school and I’ll be in a year long placement for all of 2022. I get a one week break in April and in August. I reached out to our venue to see what the options are for postponing again and the only weekend dates are in June or September. The week I’m off in August the Monday or Thursday are available, but I don’t know if it’s worth having a weekday wedding. We’ve already done the small wedding, so I really want to have all our friends and family there, but will they even come to a weekday wedding or are we better off just keeping our date this year? I feel stuck and sad.

Postponing your vow renewal may be best due to your education timing plus the travel plans for your family and friends to make it for the occasion once all is clear and open. It does take a lot to feel the pressure to not have everyone present though its better they all are safe and sound at home.

Yes, we we’re going to do a vow renewal for the family that wanted to be there for our ‘real’ ceremony, but have an evening ceremony and then go right into the reception without a break for bridal party photos. Only a few of the guests are from out of town. I agree the Thursday would be better, and I like that analogy, a weeknight birthday party with friends lol. Thanks!

Sorry should’ve specified, but that’s correct, we’ve invited over 100 guests. We do have a wedding coordinator so that is true, it wouldn’t be as much stress on us. I’ll look into the weekends that are available. Thanks for the input!

Are you planning to re-do the ceremony for your guests or is this just a reception? Is the venue transit friendly? Are your guests all in the same city or region as the venue? If you're not redoing a ceremony and the venue and your guests are all local and can easily reach the venue for dinner after work hours, I would hold it on Thursday. It may not be the bumping dance party of a typical Saturday wedding but it can still be celebratory and fun, kind of like a birthday party that lands on a weeknight with a ton of friends.

I’m going to assume your guest list is 50+ but correct me if I’m wrong. If you’re looking to have a reception with dancing and mingling then yes I think you need to postpone. There’s just no way that’s going to be possible this summer.
Can you just have your wedding on one of the available weekends next year without taking time off? Is your partner or someone else close to you able to take on some of the last minute planning that’s required so you can focus on your placement? If you’re organized enough in your planning most of the planning should be nailed down well before the actual date anyway. You could also consider hiring a coordinator to take on all of the week of tasks.
I think if you want to have a proper party then you’ll want to have it on a weekend. If you’re going to move it to a weekday then I’d probably just go ahead with a COVID restricted wedding this year (if restrictions ease and it can be done in a safe manner obviously).
