Should i wear a wedding dress?

Amanda, on August 4, 2018 at 07:50 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 30
My fh and I have on a whim changed our wedding date from 10/10/2020 to this Sept 2. And instead of having a large event our venue has agreed to do a small intimate gathering for the price of our deposit which was so helpful financially. Since we dont have a lot of time and are only having 18 guests and just a dinner after no dance. My maid of honour is just wearing something out of her closet. My fh is wearing a suit he bought for a wedding in June. I have a very tight budget of 200 my questions are, should I try to get a cheap but nice wedding gown if possible, or should I just wear this dress I wore to the wedding in june. (I'm the one on the left) it's a knee length halter dress. I am kind of hoping to surprise him with looking stunning. I'm just overwhelmed with how low our finances are and wondering if it's worth spending money on since it's so small of a wedding?

I think the important question here would be, if you look back in 10 years, will you wish you wore something different? I like the dress in the picture, it is flattering on you. I have also seen some lovely ones online as well, for reasonable pricing.

That being said... you could always renew your vows and wear a fancier, more traditional dress then. Smiley smile

I'd wear whatever makes you feel fabulous. A dress does not make the person. Do whatever makes you feel the most confident and beautiful Smiley heart

The dress is beautiful. I hope it will work out for you. If not, another source to consider is Facebook. I am not sure bout Ontario but I do believe it will have something similar here in BC calls Vancouver Wedding Buy and Swap. Brides are selling their dresses. decors and so many other things from their wedding on daily basis. Good luck and keep us posted.

You can find some reasonably priced casual bridal gowns at David's Bridal. There were quite a few beautiful ones I saw when I was there picking out my dress. I'd also look for second hand ones. I'd try to find a bridal dress, before going another route. In the interest of still feeling like a bride the day of. Smiley smile

That's gorgeous! What a lucky find! My friend purchased her wedding dress from a consignment store and looked absolutely stunning while staying in her budget. It's definitely a great option to purchase a pre-worn dress. Hope it all works out for you, all the best!

So I am super excited I found this in my price range used and the best part is its already altered to fit me. The girl is my exact height and measurements. She just purchased it in spring for over 2000 and I'm getting it for less than 200 and it's my dream style. I'm so excited I go next week to try it on and buy it. Fingers crossed it as good as it looks in pictures.

You don't need to get a wedding dress, but it would be nice to wear something new! Plus you could get something at le chateau that doesn't break the bank. Another option is going to David's bridal/other bridal salons and getting something off-the-rack as is, even an ivory bridesmaid dress if they have any ready to buy. Opportunity bridal is a travelling dress shop that sells dresses right off the rack for cheap! If there's one in your area I'd definitely look into it.

I don't know how feasible it is for you to order from the States, there's a store called Modcloth that has simple beautiful dresses, kind of vintage-looking.

I agree, you should at least be in something "new"... something he hasn't seen. But you definitely don't need to break the bank. It's end nearing the end of summer, you can almost always find crazy deals at David's Bridal when they have their clearance gowns. Like, actually under $200. Also, once you know your size, don't be afraid to look online for DavidsBridal.ca or .com.... that's where they'd have clearance dresses that are literally the last one of that size, and you could really get a steal! Good luck!

Do what ever feels right for you!! I do think this is a great time to go out and buy yourself a nice new dress! But maybe not so much a "wedding" dress! Maybe something you wear for the first time on your wedding and could wear again?

Wear whatever makes you comfortable and happy. If you really want the bridal feeling with less financial hardship I would try regular stores for white dresses or buying a bridesmaid dress. I think that no matter what you wear the day will still be special.

I'm sure you'll look great either way, but perhaps if you opt for a less expensive, all-white dress, you can use some of the money to put toward having your hair and makeup done too rather than having to spend all of that (and more) on a wedding gown.

I would definitely try and find something it doesn't even have to be a "wedding dress" just something he hasn't seen. I would try places like La Chateau, The Bay, Dynamite etc.

I would try to find a simple white dress, or look for a wedding dress on kijiji, there are also some stores where brides can sell their dresses for a discount, not sure if they have any in Ontario. I think it would be very romantic to surprise your future hubby with a different dress Smiley smile.

If there is a davids bridal near. They have white and ivory bridesmaid dresses. Way affordable vs a wedding dress.

I would choose a new dress. You look lovely in your pic but it would be nice for your FH to see you walking down the aisle in a dress he has never seen you in if you can find one. David's bridal has a big dress sale on right now I was told.

We totally are doing the same thing ... we cancelled our 2019 wedding and are getting married in November - and our family thinks they are coming to an engagement party Smiley smile

I am TOTALLY wearing a dress!! Everyone else can come in jeans for all I care - but I will be a bride in a beautiful gown!

I agree with Vinod. I would go for a simple but well-fitted new dress that won’t break the bank. Getting your hair done in an updo or in a style that you wouldn’t usually wear to someone else’s wedding could be enough to wow your future husband too.

I have seen some brides wearing regular white dresses simple enough they didn't break their budget.

Rent the dress instead of buying and save that much more. It's less and return after saving space in the closet.

I think I would go for a new dress, but not necessarily a white one, just something that looks nice on you. And I wouldn't shop in stores that sell wedding attire, regular shops will have plenty of nice dresses that fit better in your budget.
