Should I use a Travel Agent for a Destination Wedding?

Erica, on September 30, 2019 at 19:52 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7
I've been getting some costs from Travel Agents (TA) and their prices are coming in higher then what the packages are listed for on the tour providers website? Has anyone planned a DW without a TA, would you recommend it?

My cousins contacted the hotel to let them know she was getting married and then we booked online ourselves it was actually hundreds of dollars each cheaper than with a TA

I'm pretty sure it's international - https://www.destinationweddings.com. I'm not really sure what can be done for $1500 per guest because our only requirement was that it was less than 2k. It ended up starting at $1925 per person in a double occupancy room, and most people upgraded to a $2500 pp package.

Hi Madisyn, are you using a local travel agent or a national travel agency? I’ve contacted a few local ones and they’ve told me I need to up my budget for my guests and have felt very discouraged. I feel as though a budget of $1500 should be reasonable for each of my guests.

We are using a travel agent and we haven't been able to find better prices anywhere else! It has also been amazing to have someone take care of all our guests.

I think the extra cost to go with a travel agent would be good peace of mind to make sure everything is done right and you don’t have to worry. Plus they get some wicked group deals when you book so many people ( most of the time the bride and groom travel for free if you have a certain amount of people depending on the resort). Also keep in mind many travel agents have good connections to resorts and can make some special things happen for you guys!

TAs are great when planning trips for Destination weddings. The one thought that comes to mind is group discount as you look at your family members over 10 people to save more and if you encourage others guests/families to do the same as they can pay the cardholder for a reasonable price. Online tickets don't allow this process as their cost will incur per person more than expected.
