Should i hire a photographer?

Shui, on June 6, 2023 at 15:47 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13
So this is our third wedding celebration (reception only). First in Japan (we lived there), then in Malaysia (where I’m from). Now in Canada (where my husband is from).

First two weddings, photographers were a must!! And I loved all the pics.

For this wedding in Ontario, we decided to add disposable cameras for every table. So we have film cameras and a photobooth already.

Weddings are expensive, y’all. And this is my third one! It’s hella more expensive in Canada. Should I still splurge on a budget-friendly photographer? My husband thinks the photobooth and film cams are enough. I still think it could be nice or could do family photos another time instead (but less dolled up).

What do you think?

I feel like you’re probably fine after your first two wedding. Since you have disposables I don’t think you should/need too. If you want to have more special memories in a different venue you could hire a photographer just for the key moments.
    Hope this helps!♥️

Hire a photographer for the most important parts- ceremony, family photos etc they charge based on the # of hours they will be there as well as the # of shooters needed

He seems to do a lot of nice work, he looks legit but the risk you take.

If you already have photos from the last two celebrations, no point in spending more money on a photographer, especially if you have a photobooth and film cameras it's more than enough and sounds like a lot of fun to have.

I'm assuming the Canadian guests did not attend the celebrations in Malaysia or Japan? Is the third celebration a formal dinner where everyone is dressed up? Are you wearing different outfits from the first two celebrations? If the answer to any of the questions above is "yes," then I would hire a photographer. Doesn't have to be anyone fancy, you can literally hire a portrait photographer instead of a traditional wedding one, the kind that do professional headshots.

If budget is a concern, I would opt for this over a photo booth. I would gladly trade props and costume pieces for better quality photos.

If this was the day I get married, I would 100% invest in a good photographer. I want to be absolutely sure that I will receive great photos that I will be looking at everyday for the first three months after my wedding.

But this is my third celebration with the same man. Lol.
$1500 is a great deal! I hope you’ve seen his work before putting down the deposit. If you found him through a recommendation, am sure he’s great and you’ve nothing to worry about.

At first I was going to skimp out on a photographer but was told that is something you want to get and to spend the extra money, Yet I've seen a lot of brides pay a lot of money and get better shots from family members, so I checked my local wedding groups and found one who would do it for $1500 and for that price if they suck, it was a small cost. Fingers crossed that he's better than his price.

I haven’t gotten them done yet. But I’ve done 2 photoshoots that were each an hour long and we got more than enough photos and time. So 2 hours should be great!

Yeah I think I should do just that. Just an intimate photo session would be better than adding on top of what am already spending on buying and developing the films for the venue, innit.
    Thanks for your input!

That is probably a better idea, ey? Was 2 hours too long? Or just enough?

I would look into hiring a photographer for 1-2 hours just for family photos!

If you would like budget friendly, but still want family photos; may I suggest just hiring for a few hours as apposed to a a whole evening instead? It should significantly cut down the price tag.

If you are doing the reception between 5-7 in the evening, maybe have someone come out for an hour before the reception to do some family photos?

For example, we booked a photographer for the next day at sunset to take our photos and we only are paying $450.00 (2 hours). Which is pretty cheap in the sense it is in Banff.
