Set up for a strange location...

Erin, on April 7, 2018 at 10:50 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 7
We are getting married at a waterfall - IN a waterfall! - and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do our ceremony set up...

It will be a private ceremony, since the site is small, so only select guests will be invited (maybe a max of 20). The ceremony will be short and sweet - probably half an hour max. I'm just trying to decide if we want to set up chairs or just have everyone stand around? Will they be in or out of the water? Do we create an aisle? I'd love a wooden arch but is it worth the effort? Will it take away from the natural beauty of our site?

For reference, my FH and I will be standing at the top of the waterfall in the first picture and our family and friends will be in the shallow water further back from the waterfall. The arch, if we have one, would be at the edge of the waterfall.

I have a year and a half to figure this out still, but id love some thoughts!

An arch would look beautiful! I don’t think it would take away from the natural beauty.

What a unique location! Great idea!

I think you could leave it up to guests if they want to bring their own chair. Not sure what your crowd will be like, but I think my friends would be okay to stand but not my parents. You could also provide some chairs instead of having people bring their own, but again I don't think you would need to bring a chair for everyone.

The pictures were taken last September, so the water level shouldn't change THAT much. My fiance and I have lots of experience with waterfalls and definitely kept that in mind when choosing a location. I also have a backup idea in case there isn't enough water, for whatever reason, but I don't think that will be an issue.

Most of my family and friends know what to expect, and I'll make it very clear on the invitations as well.

    Thanks for your insight!

Just to clarify, when were these pictures taken? Water levels can change seasonally so there could be more/less water for your September wedding. (I've never been to your particular waterfall, just using my environmental knowledge lol).

Do the 20 people know what to expect, i.e. do they know you're getting married in a waterfall? Depending on the people, they might be OK with standing in the shallow water, but wet rocks can be quite slippery, especially for elderly guests. They may be more comfortable sitting out of the water. Me personally, I'm pretty outdoorsy and physically fit so I wouldn't mind standing in the water.

If you want an wooden arch, I think it would look great with the waterfall! And an aisle, if you want one, would look great made out of rocks, kind of how the second picture looks.
